Discord won't detect Final Fantasy XIV

Hi there. Not sure if this is the right place, so please redirect me if necessary.

For a while now, FFXIV hasn't been showing up under my Game Activity in Discord. While this isn't a major issue, other players on Discord are displaying FFXIV in thier Game Activity and I am constantly irritated by this as I do not know what the cause is.

I would appreciate any insights to this; either from other users of Discord or a member of the FFXIV dev team.

As a side note, FFXIV does not appear under Game Capture but Window Capture in streaming software. Again, nothing major, this just caused me to be confused for half a second.

Hmm, in Discord settings, did you set under 'User Settings' and 'Game Activity', the slider to the right for 'Show currently running game as status message'? Did you also try manually detecting the game while running it? (FFXIV or any game actually has to be open and running for this to work, it won't work if you simply have the game installed but not currently running.).

Someone else probably knows more as I'm still a novice when it comes to running Discord.

Yes. I have the slider toggled (blue) but the main issue is that XIV isn't automatically detected and isn't available from the dropdown when I try to add it.

You would be better off contacting Discord support since it's an issue with their app, not with FFXIV.

At a guess you're running Final Fantasy XIV with elevated administrator permissions (this also happens automatically everytime there's an update, until you restart) and Discord isn't running elevated so it can't hook into it.

Basically change XIV so it doesn't run with elevated permissions because aside from patching it doesn't need them. You could also run Discord with elevated permissions as well, but that's not recommended or necessary if you can fix XIV's launching. If you use the Steam version it might be as far back as you're running Steam elevated (really bad idea!) and then everything that launches in term is also elevated.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Unfortunately, I have changed FFXIV so that it doesn't run as administrator and this doesn't allow it to appear in my 'Currently Playing' list. I have contacted Discord about it but they don't seem to be able to help much in this case. P.S I am using the Windows version, not Steam.

It might be worth pointing out that my streaming software (Streamlabs OBS) will not detect FFXIV using Game Capture. I use Window Capture instead when streaming FFXIV.

Are you running FF as an administrator? This can keep some apps from getting access to it, such as streaming software, the steam overlay, and so on.

Do you have a personalized message set? That replaces game activity display.
