Restrictions for new characters active all day?

Hi,

We're 3 new players who just bought the game, trying to join our friends on the Lamia Server. It's very frustating, we've been at it over 2 hours during the day, refreshing, trying to create our characters, to no avail.

After giving up, we come back during the night, thinking it will finally work, but it seems like it's just ALWAYS restricted.

We play these games to be with our friends. This restriction incentive really needs reworking. If we can't play with our friends, Square Enix, you better be prepared to reimburse us the days we waste trying to just create a simple character.

Anyone else has encountered this problem?

I dunno about reimbursement.. but a lifting of restrictions on the FIRST character made on an account would be nice. Nobody wants alts all over the place inflating server pop counts and data usage but at least the first character you make on an account shouldn't have restrictions.. The social aspect is one of the bigger draws.

The server is essentially full, so there's nothing they can actually do about it without upgrading the servers or having a good portion of the server's population stop playing for awhile. Which given how long it took /last/ time for SE to approve Yoshi-P's request for server upgrades has about as good a chance of happening as a snowstorm in hell. This is why they implemented the world visit feature. Just go to an Aetheryte and select World Visit, click Lamia and /bam/ you can play with your friends for the most part. You can't be in the same FC but you can be in a cross-world linkshell together instead which satisfies the chat element.

You're not going to get a reimbursement out of this under any circumstance.

best bet is to roll on a different server on primal for now and transfer later. but you can world visit to lamia to party with your friend

It's odd because Server Status shows the server as being Preferred but locked to new character formation at the moment. Same issue with Sargatanas on Aether. No new character creation on Balmung but that's expected given it's listed as Congested.

Good chance server status will be adjusted with the 5.25 which is coming soon.

I would recommend trying around 5AM weekdays given that's when many have gone to bed or are sleeping or getting ready for work or on the way to work. You could keeping checking the server status page as well. na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/worldstatus/

edit: The coronavirus isolations/lockouts aren't helping given the game has a lot more people playing at the moment given they're staying home and not going to work.

The status page is updated every so many hours on a set schedule, the servers themselves update in real time. So they could be open or closed at any given minute based on the number of players online. Best advice was to try early morning, or failing that to play on another primal server and world visit/cwls.

It's 5:00am PDT and Lamia shows that new character creation is available (along with all the other NA worlds except Balmung). Perhaps try first thing in the morning when servers are less congested.

Also, if necessary you can still create a character on any Primal world and play with your friends on Lamia once you've completed the level 15 MSQ and have unlocked travel to other city states. About the only thing you won't be able to do would be join their FC but you can still add them to your friends list, send them tells (even when on different worlds), be in the same cross world linkshells, etc.

Yeah always thought the way they handle new character creation to be bizarre. Seems like it could be resolved by letting you make the character and not need to immediately log in with them? Unless I've missed that being an option somehow. Just let people create the character then wait in the queue like anybody else logging in.

Idk if there's something special in the way they handle character creation or what but this isn't a problem I've experienced in any other MMO. It is really annoying. Seems trying again at a very off hour is about all you can do.

The problem is the difference in how they handle logging onto the server itself. With FF14 you don't log on to the server until after you've selected your character. So if there is a log on queue preventing new characters from being created is a way to try and stem that. Other MMOs, going to use WoW since ESO is a megaserver and I've never once had a queue there, give you the logon queues before getting to the character select screen. Thus allowing you to create a new character even on the most congested servers because you already spent a ridiculous time waiting to get there to begin with. So in order to change it SE would have to completely rewrite the server codes to log you onto the server first before character creation, which at this point in time isn't very likely to happen.

Update: it seems like players are much more active at night (I'm guessing because of the West Coast). This morning, Lamia and almost all other servers were available.

Thanks for the notification about 5 AM. I had tried at 2:45 AM, but gotten discouraged and went to sleep.
