Sometimes I wonder whether or not I'm the only person who joins these threads because of principles, rather than being upset or something. I don't even collect mounts.

I love FFXIV, dislike cash shops, and, like some of the others in this thread, admitted that it would be nice and dandy (to us) if FFXIV didn't have a cash shop. Does that make me upset? No. But it does mean that I won't consider FFXIV the perfect game and that I will criticize it where I feel criticism is due. Calmy, I might add.

As in, a package that is partial, or incomplete.

A functional incomplete package is not the same as a complete package. All it takes for a package to be incomplete is a single locked item that cannot be aquired through in-game means.

--You don't buy patches updates in an MMO. You buy the ability to play the game.

--So literally, you just hate Premium Cash Shop. Even if it doesn't effect the game, you see something you want, you just think it should be free, and games shouldn't be allowed to sell side stuff That is optional, and that helps keep a game running.
You see optional side stuff that you can buy, then it means the game is Incomplete.

Yes and no.

Like I said, my beef is not the money, but rather it being a separate purchase that I have to go through to get those items if I want them. I'd rather pay for these things up front.

They could add a third subscription option to look like this:

Entry - $12 a month
Standard -$15 a month
Mog-Station OCD Hoarder - However much it takes to get these things for free.

Heck, if they did that, then all of this would be a non-issue even with a cash shop.

Its a Subscription based online game, you have to be online to play, and in order to play you are required to update because the previous version is no longer playable.
Even if you were to somehow trick the game to let you play a Previous version, you still have to have an active subscription tied to your account to play the game as well.
You still aren't paying for that Update, you are paying to play the game.
Those are 2 different things. If you had a separate charge to get and install the update, then we'd have a different conversation.

That 3rd Sub option wouldn't get rid of a cash shop. They would still sell separate items, and we'd still have the same argument - "I pay X amount a month for a subscription, I think it should be free" nothing would change, nothing would be improved, you'd just be paying 2x the mount for maybe a few extra things, but there is still side stuff being sold.
And now you have people complaining that they dont get X item because they arn't giving SE more and how unfair THAT would be.

No you aren't, lol. Your paying for a subscription that gives you an active account that permits you the ability to play the game.
An update is separate from the ability to play the game. You aren't paying for the ability to download Patch 5.25. You can download that for free by just installing the game launcher. Which automatically updates to the latest version, and doesn't charge you to do that.
There is a fundamental difference that you are willfully choosing to ignore.
But, Im sure we will go in circles, so Ill stop arguing this point even if you have a Counter for it.

There will Still be a Cash Shop, you will never get Everything for free even by paying a Larger Sub Tier.
Your idea as great as you or like-minded people think it is, wouldn't stop a cash shop. So it doesn't change anything, even with a Higher OCD Tier, you would still have separate Purchase Items being sold in a cash shop.
Paying $30 or so for a sub, won't stop a $20 mount from being put in a cash shop, and that $30 a month you are paying will not give you that mount for free.

Say you wanted just one item from the mogstation, lets go with this mount just for the sake of it.
I just want this new mount, so I have to upgrade my subscription to the higher tier. Sure, it gives me access to all other mogstation content, but I don't want any of it, I just want this mount.
I'm not tied into a higher tier subscription until the end of the games life or until I stop playing, because there's no way you can decrease your sub tier.
Just because I wanted one item.
Say I play this game for another 3 years, 36 months, and that higher tier subscription is an extra... $5.
36 x 5 = $180... for a single mount...
