Mogstation taking another step to the darkside

SE does not "paywall the best looking rewards" in cash shop because it's entirely a subjective matter.
Not to mention not everyone spend time and effort playing this game to have a "visual edge" or whatever. A lot of people couldn't care less about glamour or collecting mounts.

WoW went from
Rivendare deathcharger, ashes of alar, invicible, Mimiron's head, Zulian tiger, Razzashi Raptor, Onyxia, Frostbrood Vanquisher etc.. when there was no cash shop or was fairly new

Right now FF14 mounts for doing Ex/Savage are pretty nice and when you see one of those you know its owner did some high level content.

If we go back to WoW and look at the frostbrood Vanquisher rewarded for doing the hardest content back then (kill bosses in heroic 10/25 and kill bosses in a way that make the fight harder).
And when back in WoTLK you saw one of those mount you knew this guys mean business.

Now when you see someone with the azshara raid ray which is the same mount handed over everywhere but with a different color you're more like "Was this the one from that rare mob or was it from the vendor?"

But just because right now ff14 is rewarding player for doing high level content with badass and/or unique looking mounts while selling casual and unique looking mount doesn't mean they won't reward you with a reskin chocobo or whatever and sell unique and badass mounts on Mogstation in the future.

My points still stand. "Badass" and "great looking" are subjective. Reskinned chocobo could be badass and great looking depends on who you ask or how the reskin is done. UCoB, UWU, and TEA weapons are all reskinned and they are still, IMO, great looking. And the accomplishment of people who have those is not diminished. People still say "wow that person has cleared the hardest contents in the game", despite them being a reskinned weapons.
Yes there is a possibility that SE will just put a reskinned mounts in the game in the future. But having a cash shop, IMO, won't have that much of an effect. The mogstation could disappear tomorrow forever and the possiblity of a reskinned mounts in the game in the future would still be the same.

Yes, this might happen. But complaining about something that hasnt happened yet seems a bit backwards. Its funny cause the quality of WoW has also decayed with these very same business practices. If they start putting the best mounts into the Mogstation, then yeah we can complain, but I dont see that happening any time soon because 1) FFXIVs player base is objectively smaller than WoWs which gives them a lot less wiggle room for stupid shenanigans, and 2) They still have YoshiP at the helm. Love or hate YoshiP, he seems to genuinely atleast care about the game and its success. We dont have that in WoW. It has become ultra corporate. And while I rag on about basic B business practices and econ 101, there is such a thing as to extreme. If you start focusing to hard on the bottom line and become ultra corporate about the product, you will drive away enthusiasm and overall kill your product.

If we start seeing all teh best mounts by a large margin on Mogstation, and only trash rewards from Savage or EX, then I think we should get up in a tizzy. But seeing as SE has been remaining fairly consistent in their handling of mogstation thus far, It feels like the game is more likely to die before we get to WoW levels of cashshop. And to be frank, maybe that was WoW's biggest problem - they kept the thing going too long and got themselves to this point. Maybe the smarter idea was to end it sooner and focus on developing a new IP. Then again, Blizzard has been behaving terribly overall with virtually all it's IPs, so maybe its not just a WoW thing.

You don't have to buy it though... But yes I agree the prices are going higher and higher. Perhaps they're ramping up FF16 development

Ofc but most ppl here don't want it to get worse and many players are using their wallets in the mog station right now haha. Voting with our wallets only works if many ppl do it and many players wont like the mog station but will become weak and pay for it. Feedback is sometimes better than saying nothing

Aniway what bothers me the most is that you can't have your 10$ outfit on all your characters, that's greedy imo.
