Mogstation taking another step to the darkside

But just because right now ff14 is rewarding player for doing high level content with badass and/or unique looking mounts while selling casual and unique looking mount doesn't mean they won't reward you with a reskin chocobo or whatever and sell unique and badass mounts on Mogstation in the future.

Yes, this might happen. But complaining about something that hasnt happened yet seems a bit backwards. Its funny cause the quality of WoW has also decayed with these very same business practices. If they start putting the best mounts into the Mogstation, then yeah we can complain, but I dont see that happening any time soon because 1) FFXIVs player base is objectively smaller than WoWs which gives them a lot less wiggle room for stupid shenanigans, and 2) They still have YoshiP at the helm. Love or hate YoshiP, he seems to genuinely atleast care about the game and its success. We dont have that in WoW. It has become ultra corporate. And while I rag on about basic B business practices and econ 101, there is such a thing as to extreme. If you start focusing to hard on the bottom line and become ultra corporate about the product, you will drive away enthusiasm and overall kill your product.

If we start seeing all teh best mounts by a large margin on Mogstation, and only trash rewards from Savage or EX, then I think we should get up in a tizzy. But seeing as SE has been remaining fairly consistent in their handling of mogstation thus far, It feels like the game is more likely to die before we get to WoW levels of cashshop. And to be frank, maybe that was WoW's biggest problem - they kept the thing going too long and got themselves to this point. Maybe the smarter idea was to end it sooner and focus on developing a new IP. Then again, Blizzard has been behaving terribly overall with virtually all it's IPs, so maybe its not just a WoW thing.

Because I have no life or sanity, I went through the mog station page by page to see what was in it and how it broke down.

In a nutshell, theres around 496 different listings, not items, on the mogstation. To make sure people understand this, Fantasia is one item but has 3 listings for single, triple and penta.

Of those listings, Unique items that are only found on Mogstation that have nothing to do with Account (Ex: Fantasia or Jump Potions), Not from a previous event you couldve gotten the item from if you participated (Ex: Werewolf Costumes from 2018 Halloween), Cross Promotional Items (EX: SDS Fenrir from attending Fanfest, or Amazon Purchase Deals), or commissioned items (EX: Regional Glamours that were imported over), Mog station sells about 90 'Unique' Items.

I point that out for anyone whos gonna say "Well it takes up resources" cause some of these things are already existing assets sold to us if we want them. Take out existing assets and we have a number close to 50.

So out of almost 500 listings, only 100 of them are mog station specific, and of those, only like 50 of them are actually unique items that they had to develop. The vast majority of what exists on Mog station, if you break it down by listing, is Glamour items which are predominately from previous events, and account based items (jump potions and dyes), and dyes.

Point is, The cash shop isnt filled with unique things that FFXIV and SE are dumping tons of time into. Most of it is stuff you could have if you were subbed. If they do want to make something cash store specific, it does tend to be mounts. Though considering how many mounts are In Game Vs mogstation specific, its still pretty small.

Mind you my list isnt perfect there, but ti should be proof enough that mogstation isnt fleecing you. The cash shop isnt some huge issue, most of the content in the game by a vast majority is something you gain by playing the game. So can we not do the "Mogstation is cancer" posts and falsely say that its gettign more and more bloated with exclusives when the simple fact is most of it is from in game events or account junk.

Your list is a bit off, as it includes the weapons from the XIII event.

And I'm not sure I'd count the recolors of the Zu or Magitek armors as exclusive.

Ofc but most ppl here don't want it to get worse and many players are using their wallets in the mog station right now haha. Voting with our wallets only works if many ppl do it and many players wont like the mog station but will become weak and pay for it. Feedback is sometimes better than saying nothing
