I think it's rather unfair to expect Yoshi-P to be held accountable for every single statement that he has made over the years when FFXIV is an ongoing project that is constantly evolving and being updated.

If people feel so strongly about the issue and truly consider it to be a jarring, unforgivable act then they're free to vote with their wallet and take their leave of the game. That's exactly what I intend to do if the game ever crosses a line that I find to be unacceptable. I did as much with World of Warcraft when it moved in a direction I found to be uninteresting I stopped playing it despite years of investment.

Also alot of the lootboxes in other games are also just cosmetic. Why are they different? Yes they have a RNG factor to them but again they often just providing cosmetic items and seemingly doing that is fine here.

The RNG factor makes a big difference. You could spend money and not get what you want. That is objectively worse regardless if it's just for cosmetics.

Sad times when someone not wanting to pay more in an already sub based game is seen as an unreasonable customer.

That doesn't make you an unreasonable customer. What makes you an unreasonable customer is demanding that SE go against what the market tells them would be profitable when it doesn't impact the game.

Heck they could have done the cash shop and the ingame stuff in great combination. Release event items for each event again (as they did in the past before cash shop was there) and put them also in the cash shop. Waiting one year to get your hands on them might be too much for some so those can buy them with real money. There both sides should be happy. Release tokens ingame that people can earn to buy mog station items from it. They are not too easy to get thus people will have to work hard towards them (thus playing the game more -> paying more sub money) or people can just buy them.

Now that would be greedy. If they're releasing the item again in game then they shouldn't be offering it for money and should encourage people to do the content in game to get it. Also, that would mean that the Mog Station would have a bigger impact on the game, and I'd rather not have that.

I wish they stop making mounts and give us more casual wear instead.

Okay, with all the hollering about how a 'cash shop' is bad.... does anyone know of an MMO that doesn't have a cash shop? Blizzard has a cash shop - mounts, minions (pets), some glamour, name change, race change, level boosts and their mounts are all $25 and minions are all $10 - the only thing a bit better is they are account bound, not single character. SE's $24 dollar mounts are all account bound, while the cheaper ones are single character. Blizzard doesn't have housing so they don't have housing items for sale obviously. Every other MMO I have tried has a cash shop and most are worse - lootboxes are just... meh. NOTHING in SE's cash shop is necessary to play the game and play it well. They are optional items that hey, if you have some extra cash, might be worth buying!

And the fact that unlike most games, Se allows people to pay a little bit if they missed a seasonal event to get the nifty things that still do not change game play for you, is a nice gesture in my eyes.

Good luck finding an MMO that doesn't have a cash shop.

All ya'll complaining about them charging for stuff that is completely NOT part of completing either the base game or the 'post MSQ game' in any manner.

Everything in the cash shop that IS part of the game, like levels and MSQ completion, can be completed in game...

They charge for fully optional things, because those are just added fun things to get.

Would you rather they be in the situation ArenaNet is with Guild Wars 2? Laying off entire teams every quarter because the folks like you that are over there complained so much about the cash shop that other players also stopped using it... and now the company can't pay the bills...

I would much rather see companies like ArenaNet and SE do well, than suffer layoffs while companies like EA and Activision buy what's left of them in the end and cannibalize it...

The day something shows up in the cash shop that gives an in-game bonus, power, boost, etc that cannot be obtained in game, I will have some sympathy... but until then - I view threads like this as the very reason some of my favorite MMOs have died or are dying...

They give you a good thing, and a game without any pay-to-win; and you slap them in the face for it.

I've never had an issue with them putting mounts and glam and stuff on mogstation, but honestly the timing of this is super shady. The mount looks like it would be an event reward, but is released on mogstation same time the event is about to come out.... Instead of giving it to us in the event and then releasing it on mogstation the next year, they just didn't even bother giving it to us in an event at all. Instead we get some stupid rabbit costume as a crappy event reward.

Like man, SE I understand you don't have to buy mogstation stuff but this was just low. Like they couldn't just wait a year and then put them on mogstation?
