Mogstation taking another step to the darkside

if you are paying a sub what are you entitled to if not the content that you are paying for? Is it really entitlement to say "I would like the money that I pay to go towards content as a player?" What if they stop making unique armor and weapons in the game..then are we entitled. Where is the line?

Are you saying all of this is going to Happen all because of a premium mount being sold in the cash shop?...My Goodness....
So I guess we aren't getting new content because they put a Motorbike and a Flying Whale straight into the Cash Shop with no way of getting it in game for free...
Look, We are still getting PLENTY of new content, that will never stop. They are still making tons of new armors and weapons, that will never stop. You need to relax and put the Brakes on with the Doom Speak.
You aren't missing out on new content because there is a Mount being sold on Mogstation.

No, it is naivety. The money you pay for a sub only partially goes towards FFXIV content. Much of it goes to development of other games at SE. This is perfectly normal though - creating new games cost money, and that money has to come from somewhere - like existing games.

As for the mogshop - there have been unique mounts and cosmetics sold there for years now. Items you can't get in-game. So absolutely nothing new about that.

It isn't unusual in the slightest for a business to offer additional products and services for those with a disposable income. It's very interesting that some posters claim that such behaviour is unacceptable but continue to commit to the game, though. Pretty much every new item added to the Mog Station sells like ice cream on a hot day. Do you honestly expect Square Enix to cut off that source of income?

This comes up whenever optional items are added. Yeah money and businesses still exist, some people are more bothered by the monetary system than others. S-E are ok, they just added 3 more mounts that can be unlocked through gameplay a handful of days ago (sheep, giraffe, dinobird). And the game itself has no shop integration, no pop ups suggesting we buy premium stuff, it's all very unintrusive and easy to ignore.

Gonna rely on the same argument that I do whenever this topic shows up.

But just because the Amusement/Roller coaster/Theme park requires an entry fee does not mean there won't; or shouldn't for that matter, be other costs and fees further inside. Pictures, mementos, prizes and food tend to still have costs, just like cosmetics, mounts, minions, and hair styles do on mogstation. I'll be more concerned when they start charging for stats+ at end game and no I don't consider level-up or story skips a part of that.

That kind of attitude is just as greedy and selfish as the cash shop you’re arguing against “It exists, so I want it”. I’m not the biggest fan of the cash shop either, but the items in it would not exist if they weren’t going to be sold for real money. It’s a completely different team of people who work on most of that content. So then it comes down to either having items that are completely optional that you have to pay for, or having none of them at all.

I could be wrong, but because it’s a different team, I don’t see these products interfering with the development of the game itself. I don’t see them purposefully holding back on the quality of the game in order to push the cash shop. So that all brings me back to my point of how does having optional items in a cash shop have any bearing on the game or you as a player? The subscription is ultimately a service fee to access the game. They can do whatever they want on the side. No content is being gated. There’s no in-game link to the cash shop whenever you highlight a mogstation item.

It may sound awkwardly white knight-ish, but considering we’re still paying 2005-era subscription prices on a modern game, I don’t see too much of a problem with mogstation existing to make up the difference. If I paid $13 on a sub for FFXI in 2005, that’s $17.55 now after inflation. Our sub prices aren’t that high and the game quality and development costs are higher so the difference has to come from somewhere.

They money from our sub, buying the game, the expansions don't all go to the FFXIV team, it goes to SE. SE gives a budget to all their departments/sections, and it is not a very large budget either(after all they are a company and companies are around to make money, not hand it out.). A few years ago the game needed server upgrades badly. SE wasn't keen on paying for it since in their eyes the game was doing fine and they weren't going to spend money on something they thought pointless. The Devs came up with the MogStation (which all the money that is spent in the Mogstation goes to the FFXIV team) to help pay for things like server upkeep/maintenance, as well as help pay for future expansions, content etc. Nothing in the Mogstation is a must have, no one is entitled to any item that is in the Mogstation.

I know we have the association between spriggans and Hatchingtide, but beyond that it doesn't really look like a themed mount at all. It's carrying a gem and a basket of cushions. Either they designed it for the event then dialled it back to make it generic, or it was never intended for the event but made as a generic mascot mount.

They were clearly waiting for Hatching Tide to release this mount. Whether it was intended to be obtainable in game at all is something only SE knows, but even I know that they were clearly trying to take advantage of the time of year to put this mount on the shop regardless of what their original intentions may or may not have been. Very few things in life happen by coincidence, especially where a business is concerned. I don't really care one way or the other, but that is just my observation.

That is still speculation, while what Iscah stated about the Spriggy not being a themed mount is also based on observation, and isn't false. Big difference there. Where her and I have speculated was that the mount was initially intended to be an event mount (possibly had eggs and such instead of the gem and cushions), and then later modified to go into the cash shop. If this is the case, then I would be inclined to agree with you, but there is no way for us to know for sure that is within ToS guidelines.

Not saying I don't see things your way. If cookies go missing when there is only one kid in the house; it's pretty obvious where they went. But that little booger can still plead to fifth. Much is the same in this case.
