a Unexpected Error Has Occurred. Exiting Final Fantasy Xiv.(6d)

Hi, I'm receiving this error when trying to start the game.



I can start and play the game once if I restart my pc, but then if I close it, and try to play again, the error appears.


It happens on the launcher right when I click on Play, after login.


I've been having this issue since yesterday, I could play normally the day before. Nothing was changed on my computer between those days too.

I've tried dx9, I don't have mactype installed, don't have any injection software, tried running through geforce experience, tried disabling Geforce experience overlay, disabled steam overlay, tried logging into my girlfriend account, tried previous launcher layout, tried running steam AND FF in administrator both and nothing solves it.

Please, I don't want to have to restart my computer every time I want to play the game. That'd be hazardous to my PC and very impractical. I'm also loosing subscription time while this error is happening, which I doubt I will get back.

When exactly did this start happening? Do you recall anything changing/updating on your PC that coincides with this?

You may want to try a clean boot if you haven't already. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game. Then launch the game without opening any other programs.

Hello, it started happening on Monday afternoon, I could play normally the days before.

The only thing I do recall changing/updating on my PC that coincides with it, is finishing a install on steam of the game "Grand Theft Auto V", and quick launching it for a minute, which required a small update on the software dependancies the game require to run, which are the Rockstar Social Platform and "Microsoft Visual C++" specific versions, the ones on the image below:



Which I did unninstalled anyway afterwards when FF started getting a error on login, but it changed nothing and the error persisted.

I tried yesterday to run the game with everything on my start up disabled; I still got the error in the same way; only being able to run the game once per start up, and if I close it once, the error appear when trying to play again, unless I restart again. I already checked my task manager for leftover FFXIV processes that could still be running after the game is closed, but there's none.

I'm really loosing the game time I paid for, plus having to restart my brand new computer multiple times a day, only to be able to play FFXIV. I really need a solution, or I don't see myself renewing my subscription next month, nor my girlfriend's who play with me, sorry.

Hello, I reinstalled the game on my C:/ Drive and i'm still getting the same error.

When Final Fantasy XIV crashes, is the game being run in full screen mode? Can you turning off any full screen optimizations? Along with that, could you try running the game in windowed and full screen mode?

Hello. The game crash before it even starts, let me explain again.


I can play ONCE, at every start up/restart of my Computer, and it run normally. Then, if I close the game ( Regularly, i'd have to close it multiple times a day, when I go eat, start working, etc ), and try to open it back again, I get the error message "An Unexpected Error Has Occurred. Exiting Final Fantasy Xiv.(6d)" right when I click start game, still on Launcher, after putting in my login credentials, the client don't even show up, it just close the launcher automatically with the error message and no client starts.

Only if I restart my computer I can start the game again without error.

I've tried running only final fantasy XIV on my pc, with ALL my other processes and softwares closed, and I still get the error.

I've just started the game ( after a computer restart ), did as you mentioned and ran the game in window mode, instead of full screen as I always do, closed it after I was done with my dungeon run, tried starting up the game again, got the error message in the same way.

The same standard replies, This is a client problem, many people started getting this error, me included, after the last mayor update. For many the only way to get the game to run is through GeForce experience for some odd reason.

Its not "Mactype" and its not anything we have modded or installed, its the client

Yeah, I never used mactype, and my client is clean, I've just started playing.

Sadly running through GeForce did nothing for me and I still can't play the game.

I really need a solution for this, even if temporary. I can't be restarting my computer every time I want to play. Before this error, I had only restarted my computer once in over 20 days, now I have to do it 4 times a day lol.
