I moved to Grid recently. Gave up two good spots in the Ul' Dah Battlecraft Ward. Wish more people would do the same.
I now use the Inn, Wards and I'm a Twin Adder. Also my three mains are Botany, Carpentry and Archer/Bard. Would be cool if there was more people here. ^^

I think two primary things are needed to spread people out in the 3 cities. Link the 3 wards together and add a party recruitment chat channel.

Secondary things could be making rested exp bonus only accumulate from our home cities inn room (the other cities inn would just be for viewing cutscenes etc), grand company (optional) temporary buffs that boost skills or maybe a home nation buff you get while in your home city that boosts crafting or something.

Also this clients a joke when it comes to crowds of people, its laughable how terrible it is, it can barely load 20 people at once in close proximity, that will probably be changed in 2.0 though.

I can guarantee that the stalls in the market wards "Almost all wards" are open, not enough people know they can use them even if the wards are full.

    Silly people.

I'd totally use Gridania more if it wasn't constantly raining. And if it wasn't so full of overly long boring corridors between areas. LL it is for now!

Yes that works to get 10 more people into each ward. Expect those slots to start filling. I don't think this addresses the problem much as pretty soon there is going to be competition for those stalls. If this keeps up. getting your hands on one might be like trying to win a spawn lottery.

Wouldn't that make about a hundred + spots? Guess I'm crazy when i don't expect the entire game to fit into one area. Neither am I in a mad dash to sell my stuff I guess.

The United States is 3,794,101 sq mi and comprises 10,016 cities

The top ten cities make up .001% of the total number of cities and .001% of the total land area...
And yet they hold 8% of the population....

Tokyo's metro area is only 0.014% of Japans total area and 10% of the population lives there

What does this mean? People group up together... Ul'dah represents a basic human tendency

i'm wondering how many people remember that we did have reasons to go to the other cities? it's funny to watch alot of people complain that their cities are dead after supporting the only reason i ever went to grid or limsa being removed.

do you remember recipes that needed guild or master support from the guilds?
do you remember having to go to the guild to purchase abilities?

these things forced people to go to other cities besides uldah, but everyone supported them being removed. don't act suprised now that you get what you asked for and it had unintended consequences.

i know i remember going to uldah and spending days there because guild support allowed me to complete higher level synths while grinding, but now that's been removed the whole reason to go there is gone.

outside of going to limsa or grid for farming i don't waste my time going there and a global shout isn't doing anything to change that.

The thing that makes me wonder about this is, what if the game were actually successful at launch? Right now the servers are at what Yoshi P would consider an acceptable amount of people per server. Can you imagine what it would be like if it was actually a popular game?

The bottom line is they need to get rid of the market wards all together, it was a failed experiment that seems like it was inspired by people setting up bazaars outside of jeuno. The only problem is, there were very few people doing it in FFXI compared to the player base population and that is why it worked, there was enough variety you could go out and find rare things while being few enough people that you didnt have to spend 9 hours sifting through lag trying to find what you want. If every player in the game had decided to stand out there it would have crashed out the zone, I have no idea why they are continuing to torment us with the market ward system. At best, they need to introduce the market wards in 2.0 as free company only, 1 retainer per free company, they can pick and choose what rare things they want to sell in said retainer. Everyone else has to use the auction house for common goods. Problem solved.

Secondly, they simply need to make it so you can only go to the inn in your own city at this point if uldahs overpopulation is causing crashes.

Thirdly, the player congestion is the player bases fault. Notice how we are all crowded together within walking distance of the aetheryte? Uldah is HUGE yet 90% of the players that are in uldah AFK within a 5 second walk of the crystal and that is a huge issue. Log out of the damn game instead of leaving it on, there isn't an achievement for leaving your computer on and showing off your gear that no one cares you have more than 72 hours after new content is released.

The only thing that I can think of that would spread people out would be implementing a buff that basically increases all stats, including crafting and gathering by a fixed percentage, and the length that it stays active outside of your grand companys city is determined by how long you are in the grand companies city. This could go hand in hand with them implementing inns restricted to your own grand company. Like for every second you are in Limsa if you are from the maelstrom gives you 1/10 of a second of the "patriotic" bonus once you step out of town, and maybe 2/10 of a second if you log out in your private room or something along those lines. Unfortunately the player base doesn't seem to understand it is shooting itself in the foot by clumping up in uldah 10 feet from the crystal like a bunch of insects. Some sort of extreme incentive to stay in a different city would need to be implemented to spread people out.

Or maybe just make it so you only regen anima if you log out in your inn room, would probably piss alot of people off, but it would clear the streets.

it represents a piss poor and lazy design choice. no starter City should be a Trade hub. there should have been a 4th non starter city and each city should have continued on its own Main Story without converging everyone on the server to one location.
