Pretend its Jeuno like in FFXI.

If you don't like it, you don't have to be here.

And if your gripe is that the wards are full, kicking people out of the city isn't a fix.

How about add more wards, increase the number of retainers allowed per ward, add additional copies of some wards, (when battlecraft 1 fills, flow over into battlecraft 2)

Correct the issue at hand, not something unrelated. Don't try to spread players out to other cities as a fix for a full ward.

    That's just ignorant.

Edit: if you can't handle shout spam, turn on your filters.
Of course like Jeuno you have to be in Ul'dah to catch possible /shouts for things, it's not much of an option.
No ones being kicked out of a city, just "forcefully" encouraged to stay in their home city.
There are more wards, they just aren't in Ul'dah but they're far from full.
The issue at hand is over crowding, just like it was in Jeuno, andswer(took 10 years) for overcrowding in Jeuno /yell ...
Yes turn off those /shouts cause I know you weren't here trying to catch a "quest/dungeon" run, what other reason is there to sit in 1 city over the others if you don't have to shop there and there's global chat?

Or is a solution to a problem that isn't yours just unacceptable.

As a side note, throwing "more" at a problem rarely fixes it, but instead tends to just cover up the problem while it festers and gets worse. Imagine a day where 3k people are all on at once (hey it could still happen ... maybe ...) all standing in front of the adventurer's guild in Ul'dah cause it's the only place to be. As it is you can only see ppl 1 inch in front of you, this would probably cause ppl's machines to crash, ppl would d'c and the strain on the servers would be ridiculous, and for what reason, because giving people a functional way to spread out to the other cities would be a terrible thing?

it's ok when you leave it'll help the overall population in the city, but the majority of us will still be here when you return.

I don't think it's a "bad thing", but there's a problem with it. We have these home cities we are supposed to feel attached to and yet, two of them are relatively deserted due to poor game design and lack of tools to enhance player interaction.

Jeuno had several areas, Ul'dah does not, and the lag seems to be collective. Just last night crafting in town had over 2s of input lag. Lately the wards and city have been crashing under the stress, sometimes a couple times a day. It wouldn't hurt to spread things out a bit.

Lots here talk about how they want open world this or that. That should includes cities, and there shouldn't be a central gathering hub imo. That said, I don't feel shouts are an appropriate way to recruit for parties. We only use it because it is the best way to reach the most amount of people based on basic features in the game. That reason is known to all and is in part why Ul'dah is crammed with players. If we had a global LFP channel to do this, it would reach everyone, and shouts could go back to their intended use (whatever that is. Flame wars perhaps? Lol).

I agree the limit on retainers per ward should be increased or removed. I think we've already heard dev comments concerning limitations on this one.

I go to Gridania to get away from the constant shouts really. I need a place to escape the madness that is Ul'dah. Please no global chat channels. Oh my god the search function would be completely killed (if it can be called "alive" right now, that is)

You can tune channels out and not see them. Just because you don't want them doesn't mean they will not vastly inprove the game's functionality for everyone.

Don't mistake my words for pushiness. I am for any feature that modernizes this game. I don't care how that gets done, as long as it does. Global chats and AH linking are just ways we "know" it can be done, but that doesn't cover all bases. You must admit it is the path of least resistance however, and it will never hurt you, only put another tool in your party-finding kit.

If you ask me, SE needs to shut down all shout channels for a month. Then start them up again.

I moved to Grid recently. Gave up two good spots in the Ul' Dah Battlecraft Ward. Wish more people would do the same.
I now use the Inn, Wards and I'm a Twin Adder. Also my three mains are Botany, Carpentry and Archer/Bard. Would be cool if there was more people here. ^^

I think two primary things are needed to spread people out in the 3 cities. Link the 3 wards together and add a party recruitment chat channel.

Secondary things could be making rested exp bonus only accumulate from our home cities inn room (the other cities inn would just be for viewing cutscenes etc), grand company (optional) temporary buffs that boost skills or maybe a home nation buff you get while in your home city that boosts crafting or something.

Also this clients a joke when it comes to crowds of people, its laughable how terrible it is, it can barely load 20 people at once in close proximity, that will probably be changed in 2.0 though.

I can guarantee that the stalls in the market wards "Almost all wards" are open, not enough people know they can use them even if the wards are full.

    Silly people.
