Kobold Prelate Shadowsear Rant

Fighting level 50 Kobold Prelate at U'Ghamaro Mines (North of Camp Iron Lake, La Noscea) and shadowsear hit me for 2,491 (I have 2,343 health w/ only attack food buff and protect up) I believe Sentinel was still active as well as I had just popped it (Rampart was on CD, Shield Bash was on CD). On my level 44 Gladiator with all gear slots with Rank 39+ (37 for a couple of accessories)

I really hope this is just a one-off freak incident but something tells me that this would be a routine experience against this particular mob. Some NMs, even if they were difficult fight, didn't outright 1-shot me (even if they were 2-3 levels above me), so not sure why a "normal" mob should have this kind of crazy ability. I wouldn't be complaining if this was a monster in a dungeon, some "elite" or group quest or an NM/HNM.

BTW, as an aside, SE needs to relabel "Kobold and the Beautiful" as a group quest if they meant it as such. I jumped in with both feet not expecting this to be unsoloable since I didn't see any text indicating that this required a group.

Well, your first mistake was trying to solo a mob 6 levels above your level, but yes, that Shadowsear is a killer. It's strong enough to threaten L50 characters who don't keep their HP topped up while fighting kobolds. It's quite ridiculous how much more powerful it is than anything else they (or any non-NM enemy) can do.

These mobs are also based on the old move set of the Thaumaturge, meaning you can dodge anything they begin to cast by moving out of the conal range of the cast. Easiest way is to move through them as they begin to cast, since they still have the old moveset, they are still 1 direction conal AoE and it can be avoided.

Don't forget how fun Punishing Barbs are; they use that too!

Also, some jobs/classes can indeed solo Kobold and the Beautiful, but unless it's an instanced battle, there's no reason for them to label it as needing a group. If you're the loner type, just chill at the entrance and follow some other crew in; people often go in there these days because a couple jobs have AF back in there.
