Its a lot easier to design a ui window than it is to design the function of it. Just saying.Someone made a mockup of a better UI but SE would never take the time to do something like this.

I would appreciate it if they created a way to show dialogue and a menu simultaneously. The dialogue would update based on what is happening in the menu. This could work for retainer ventures, custom deliveries, Mini Cactpot, etc. Could be a system worth designing to improve the UX at some point, and they can go back and apply the technology for common tasks, allowing for both expedience and flavour.
I think the most annoying menu is the repair NPC menu. If they would just make a repair all button that repairs all the used gear would be perfect instead of cycling through categories over and over. It’s so annoying.
I feel it's pretty typical of many Japanese interfaces -- not only in FFXIV, but all over life in Japan.
Announcements, alerts, confirmation screens everywhere. All to save people from doing something by accident.
It's kind of a quirk of Japanese culture.
Glad I'm no the only one that finds it annoying. There's some UX issues in game and that's one of em.
I imagine it's somewhat better than the old version if you sprung for a boatload of retainers, but as someone who just has the basic two it's a little annoying.
The suggested retainer UI looks great but the market board one with the option to create multiple single item listings repeats the awfulness that used top plague the WoW auction house, where one used could clock up multiple pages of listings with single craft items.Someone made a mockup of a better UI but SE would never take the time to do something like this.

They finally eliminated that, where all your stackable items for sale at one price get combined into one "stack" from which buyers can purchase as many as they need. Purchases are always completed at the lowest selling price available. Multiple listings of the same items at the same price are impossible now.
Yes, it would tend to be that way when you keep designing it awkwardly for anyone using a mouse to begin with. Wiggling the mouse around shouldn't let you gather faster because controllers require active selections.
Here's a proposed retainer / MB UI someone else suggested. All retainers in one window, no tedious opening and backing out..
Just click the retainer you want to deal with and it's inventory shows up in the same window:
