It's always interesting, though, because many of the same individuals fiercely against stuff that plays into the actual 'fantasy game' side of things will dismiss it readily but then you'll see them in another thread defending the modern style glamour that the game embraces with increasing frequency.

It'd be beneficial for role-players, if nothing else. I've run some campaigns in World of Warcraft fighting against a necromancer and some friends had a lot of fun creating undead looking characters to take on the role of his minions.
I would also add ESO's skins which allows you to give different body textures into your character as well. ESO has a pretty solid character customization system all things considered. I would definitely want FFXIV to take notes from them.
