I never understood why Apothecary had Ice magic. I get the axes were used as a substitute for the traditional sickle to cut down medicinal plants.

If we get APO in FFXIV I assume the weapon would assist you in either lobbing the augmented potions at your allies in which case we could get, Injector-Guns, Paddles, Crossbows, Arm-Cannons, Mortars, even Slingshots (Kind of like the Monster Hunter World ones where its built on your arm.), or mixing ingredients together in which case we could get portable versions of Cauldrons or Alembics in the form of a Magitek backpack. (Though this would get APO even more close to ALC so I don't think this is what we will get.)

While I like the opportunity for an Octopath shoutout, I personally do like the idea of crossbows. We definitely have a suspension of disbelief going on with many elements of this game for sure, but one thing that's hard to get around is that you don't want to actually launch a glass vial at someone to heal them. What I'm thinking is something along the lines of tossing some kind of non-glass container that has your salves in it above someone and shoot it with your crossbow so that your salve will rain over the person you're healing.

That's a cool idea. Tossing potions and shooting them with a crossbow.
    Seems like a plausible option.

It would be really great, if the chemist could provide us free potions...

In that case an Aerosolizer could work. Just imagine a flamethrower just instead of fire it sprays the mixed compounds. Maybe it would trade a shorter ranger for aoe healing? (I figure that would be hard to balance.)

It would be cool if Chemist has mechanics like linking to another player, or setting latent heals on players that you can set off again to explode. I hope the next healer does not have shields unless it can pair well with other shield healers.

Some medicine needs to be cooled, I thought that was a neat detail.

What kind of weapon would it use you suppose? A rifle like in X-2? If so, I hope the "DoT" is a channel skill, where you start firing and can move but it's like you have a heavy status effect on you and the longer you channel the more damage it does.

Different attachments for different effects, healing spray, grenade launcher and a sidearm that shoots out steroid injections for short buffs maybe?

Emergency potion the chemist throws out and shoots that heals and leaves a regen effect on the area.

I'm trying to think of different unique effects we haven't seen on healers before this is all I got for now.

Can’t they have a poison dart? Crossbow or dart gun?

personally i could see them getting a fluff trait, like ninas with their fall damage and natural speed up, that maybe doubles the amount given with physical potions/items.
As far as the gun auto attacking, if its a rifle/cannon type it probably wouldnt have to. Theres also a possibility for the sake of magic that its an aether cannon/ or something gun mage like. The shots could simply have a cast bar. And Swiftcast could just be renamed to Quicken or something and have it reworked some kind of way, or just treat everything as magic, and whatever the job gimmick is just do that honestly

it doesnt have to be a fire arm, no it just is mostly the best weapon for chemists in tactics. You had knives, or magic infused rifles that cast spells when they hit. And normal rifles too, but who would bother to use those on their chemist. if it is a sort of single shot load gun however, they could probably have an autoattack animation using a bayonet, or just slapping the enemy with the back of the gun instead of firing like MCH
