The fact that the rankings only update every 24 hours coupled with the fact that you can perform turn-ins for points at your leisure means it's very possible for people to simply horde piles of items until the last day, then just dump them all at once to secure themselves a top spot while simultaneously pushing out others who thought themselves safe; especially in the case of the DoL jobs who can horde things in stacks of up to 999.

I've already noticed DoL bots of all types starting to show up in the Diadem, so I'm getting concerned some of them are just going to under the radar until the last day to avoid drawing suspicion/attention to themselves, and are going to bomb the rankings once the time is right.

I think in the future, DoL item inspections should occur automatically at the end of a Diadem session, while DoH collectables should have a 24 hour deadline they need to be delivered within before they "expire" to discourage this kind of behavior.

Knowing your standing in relation to others is largely pointless when there can be numerous "stealth rankers" who are just hording turn-ins.

Rankings will always change everyday.
So no matter if you keep everything until the last day or do a bit of gathering everyday, the results ends the same because both will gather through time anyway.
If you're interested in the ranking, just keep doing your stuff until the end. You shouldn't "stop because you think you are at a safe place", cause you never know what the others are doing.
You could think you're "safe" one day, and the next one some people gathered/crafted like crazy so...

As for boting... that's another subject and considering some high ranking/gap between some players, it be good to watch for it so that people get rewarded for their time and not for cheating.

The issue is that the fluctuations can be much bigger when there's nothing in place to force people to do turn-ins on a regular basis.

I'm sitting comfy in the top five of the CUL rankings for the time being and have had no issues maintaining that with just 30-50ish turn-ins daily, but for all I know there could be people with retainers stuffed full of collectables waiting to kick people out of the top 12.

Yep.

Just look for the usual red flags like keeping Preparation toggled on at all times, jerky repetitive movements, weird pauses between everything they do, and the trademark flight ritual they do after every node (finish gathering > awkward pause > mount up >awkward pause > jump in place > suddenly veer off towards next destination).

This is what I thought could be done when I first saw it. You can just monitor the boards and stockpile until the last day and dump all your stuff.

Perhaps they could give a point bonus for people that stay in the top 12 and hold their spot for consecutive days while still being active to mitigate the effect of monitor, stockpile then dump. It's not needed for top 100 since it is fairly easy to stay in there if you just do it regularly. I don't think SE cares though or is taking it seriously enough to do that.

Gathering on the other hand is really just time spent: the leaderboard even more so than crafting which means bots have home court advantage.
