Yes, there has been when other companies have done this in the past. Most internet users have a VPN already, since there is no reason not to have one, and every reason to have one. So, if you regularly pay for this game, and you can use your existing VPN to pay a fraction of the cost, why wouldn't you?

It's going to be debatable. I can see both VPN abuse and overpriced regional subs leading to lower profits. It comes down to numbers in the end. Whichever path leads to more profit is the path that should be taken here imo so I'm with you on that. Still can't ignore the fact that Steam and other games offer regional fees, what OP is requesting doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

I mean, it's pretty clear they already do regional pricing, when it means they can make more money...

I've been paying in euros since day one, which really just means we Europeans have been paying more than Americans have since day one.

Rather than, as a certain someone on this thread is doing, claim all americans should pay 14,50 $ (the equivalent to 12,99 €), I am, rather, demonstrating that regional pricing already does exist.

Of course, I wouldn't mind if they decreased prices in Europe (in the name of fairness, right?), but likewise I wouldn't mind if they decreased prices in other nations where it would certainly make a difference to the paying customer.

So, taking the entry-level subscription price of $12.99, he wants to pay 12.99 BRL, which is equivalent to roughly $2.67 USD, because that fits better in with his currency. So, how can this be contrived in any other way than he wants to pay less than everyone else? Everyone else pays $12.99 USD for an entry-level sub, and he wants to get away with $2.67. It's ridiculous.

I must have forgot that all immigrants are rich. Oh, wait, they're not. If he chooses to remain in his country, that's his choice, and completely reflective of his wealth. When you make that choice, don't expect the world to bend over backwards for you; that's special snowflake syndrome at its worst.

In my country people that play through Steam pay 3.99 USD monthly for FFXIV. 3.99 USD, CARL! Compared to the usual 12.99 it's unreal.
Tell me people already don't pay low prices for their subs depending on their region.

You need money to immigrate: for the visa, for the tickets, for a place to stay, for things that are necessary to live until you find a job in a new place. You may be rich enough to think this is pocket change but some people, just like me, have been trying to save enough money for years just to move to another country. I still don't even have a half of what I need. So don't tell me that immigration is that simple and cheap.

The thing is that this is all about Steam. Steam prices are fine and they are region based. But we have no option to switch our regular account to a Steam account.
None of us want to lose everything we gained in-game over the years just to start from scratch with a Steam account.

My husband is Brazilian. I am American. We've been married more than six years now and the first five of those we lived in BR. We decided to move back to the States in early 2019. Even with us being married and he getting more or less 'automatic' approval for a green card, we've been waiting 13 months for final approval for him since we started filing paperwork. We've shelled out nearly $3,000.00 dollars for associated fees (some paid directly to the government, some for related things like his required physical or translating all of his documents to English.) And we're talking mountains of complicated forms to fill out and needing to produce just about every official document either of us have ever been issued in our entire lives. If we wanted to hire an immigration lawyer to smooth the process out, rock bottom price we were able to find was $5,000.00 and that's in addition to all the aforementioned fees. I can't even imagine what it must be like for people starting from scratch and trying to immigrate to the US legally, without an American family member or a huge pile of cash.

I sympathize with you OP, but I think it's unlikely that SE will do anything unless a large enough portion of the playerbase raises hell and/or drops their sub. SE used to have regional pricing in BR but back in July(ish) of 2017 they decided to ninja-remove for nearly all their foreign markets. It took them days to even acknowledge the change and weeks of sustained outcry and a huge drop in review score before they mollified people by going back to the original pricing for a couple of months to 'give people notice' prior to it changing again.

You are either a really bad troll, or someone that has neither clue nor empathy. And here I thought Canadians are considered the nicest people. I think we found the exception.

OP is not asking "to pay less than everybody else".
He is asking exactly the opposite: to pay as much as everybody else. And if you really think you can compare canadian dollar with BRL here to prove your point, you are beyond crazy. Yes, in your grand scheme of things he would be paying less than you. But he also does not have a canadian income. Is it too much to ask that FF14 takes like 5% of your salary instead of 50%? If anyone is currently paying less than everybody else (compared to salary, because in no way can you leave that fact out of your argumentation) then it's probably NA, and a few European countries. A bit hypocritical, aren't we?

Not going to argue with you about the chances, possibilities, money and effort needed to move to a different country. I wonder if some people have actually seen the world or just read about it in a book while living behind the moon.
