So we all pay the equivalent of $12.99 USD in our local currency. Otherwise known as the same.

Sad that this has to be painstakingly explained.
The consequences: having discount on subscription, having discount on expansions, be able to use Steam Wallet to pay for Mogstation stuff :thinking_emoji:

I feel like I'm talking to a door or someone with a serious complex of been the right one. The guy legit point at people that are able to pay less and finish the sentence with "Otherwise known as the same".

Regional pricing is pretty shitty on a lot of games (just look at what EA did not too long ago). SE needs to get with the times in A LOT of areas. This being one of them. OP isn't asking for special treatment. He's asking for pricing to be adjusted to the proper currency values for his region. There's a difference between asking for a lower price because you're not economically well off versus fair regional pricing.

And hell, regional pricing is something the game industry as a whole has adopted for well over three decades now. It's better to get some money from a region rather than zilch. It's also not like people like the OP are technically paying lower with regional pricing being implemented - as for them their $15 and our $15 are nowhere equal, with them paying an exorbitant amount more due to how poorly stretched the real happens to be right now.

The irony here is: the subscription used to be cheaper for people in brazil before Stormblood - I dont recall the details, but essentially people in brasil used to pay a sub that was more reflective of the value of their currency etc. and they changed this with SB. There was a whole thing about SE offering brasilian players to return the expansion at full prize because they decided that going forward brasilian players (or basically everyone) had to pay the full dollar-amount.

Cheaper in what way? Because there's never been a moment in history that BRL had more value than USD. If what you meant is that there was a time that Mogstation payment, converting BRL to USD, was cheaper, yes, that's is true, that'd be around 4 years ago if I remember correctly, but Steam players always had the option to pay both ways: using Steam Wallet, therefore Steam regional subscription, or via Mogstation.
Yes, Steam subscriptional would be a bit more expensive but you can get money on Steam through their marketboard, selling Valve items and stuff, so, even nowadays, you can play FF via Steam without even putting IRL money sometimes.

I don't remember exactly the details about this SE offer so I won't argue about it, better than saying wrong stuff.

I'm from Argentina, with the new tax from the government I paid my basic sub 16.99USD instead 12.99USD.
I'd love to have the option to link my acc with my steam acc. Could you paid the sub cheaper if you use Steam? Like, can I pay the sub in ARS?

The people who bought their games on Steam have an option to link their accounts and pay using Steams price table. So yes, you'd be able to pay with ARS and probably a much cheaper subscription.

I wonder if the lack of this has to do with how the regions are separated. I don't mean our data centres. I mean that there is the FFXIV we play, the version that China plays and the version that Korea plays. I wouldn't be surprised if the pricing and even the payment methods are different in China or Korea. It certainly would be easy for SE to give them different prices and ways to pay because their game servers are separate to ours.

For SE to do what OP would want, which would be a subscription fee proportionate to how much people get paid in their country instead of how it is now (in which people like OP end up paying a crazy high price due to the value of their home's currency) they might need to change how the Mog Station determines what region you are in. It wouldn't be a simple thing because obviously they would want to prevent, for example, European players pretending they're in a different location to get a super cheap sub.

I completely agree that SE should do something to make the game more accessible to countries that are at a very noticeable disadvantage due to the currency they use, but accomplishing this in a way that cannot be abused is likely not a simple task.

Additionally there is no way to change the currency you pay in. I know this from starting the game in a country that uses euro and I'm now living in the UK which has a different currency. So they would need to change this as well.

I'm not sure if SE would do it though because perhaps the community that are in OP's position is small. However that could be in part due to the price. There are probably a lot of potential players who are abstaining from playing because the price is too high. There could be an untapped market. Hopefully with the rising popularity of the game SE will take into consideration how the value of currency can be radically different from one place to another.
