I can see why they might not do it, mostly because they would have to do it for everyone in the world and that's pretty huge. I'm sure they could do it but man I don't want to be that guy who has to make that choice at all. If they just do it for us then their home base will def complain, but if they don't do it people here will complain. It's a no win all over sadly. :C The green flu from -Tom Clancey's The Division- really messed up the planet this year :c

Contrary to what you might think, it is possible to care about the negative impact of a situation even if it won't negatively impact you. I'm not trying to be some shining example of anything. I am just a person with opinions. I don't know what life has done to you to doubt people who try to stand up for others, but there are people out there who do that without hiding some personal gain they're trying to get from the situation.

Whether or not demolition gets paused changes nothing for me personally. I have ample time and money to spend on this game. However I dislike seeing other people in bad situations that can be prevented. I don't think it's fair to pause demolition for globally smaller events like natural disasters, but then leave it running for the full duration of a global issue that is getting worse and is affecting millions in ways that can easily take people away from their gaming rigs due to no fault of their own. Things are going to get worse for a while. As time passes less people will be able to log in.

The same can be said of natural disasters though. An earthquake in Japan has no effect on players outside of that country. And as far as I recall none were strong enough to be life changing for the entire population. Even though that had zero impact on players outside of Japan, which is a tremendously high number of unaffected people, demolition got suspended anyway. The same happened with violent weather in the USA, in which most players were completely unaffected.

I understand in the cases of natural disasters people may be unable to log in because their homes literally may no longer exist, but if we're talking numbers, which you did point to, more people are affected by the virus than natural disasters in one comparatively smaller region of the planet.

I agree. I do think it would be premature to pause demolition now, but I do strongly feel it is something that should be considered. Things are going to get worse before they get better. If more countries get dangerously close to the situations we see in China, Spain and Italy then demolition should get suspended.

Which is unfortunately a large part of why the corona virus swiftly became the dire situation it is now. We're too used to seeing things get sensationalised that when something truly bad happens many of us are doubtful of what the media say. It also really doesn't help when leading representatives of countries tell their nations the panic is a hoax. I'm dreading what's going to happen in those places.

I really wish people would have more sense to realise that viruses don't care for social status, money or power. And I wish they would also realise that being perfectly healthy does not mean you cannot be a carrier who spreads it to people vulnerable to serious illness or death. Sadly some people take their good health for granted to the point of ruining things for others.

And I just found out a friend's grandfather is showing symptoms of the virus and he can't get help because the hospitals are nearly full, doctors are phone only and he's not considered bad enough to get actual medical attention. So the only thing he can do is get worse

I don't want anyone here to die, or go homeless, or lose their jobs.

Bet the people against this feel really dumb now.
Seems SE has some empathy of the people that lost their jobs and out of work.
I say good job and nice move SE.

My problem wasn't with the people against it, it was with the people who simply couldn't understand the point of the request. But yeah, I think this was a good move on SE's part. I'm sure that they had to assess the situation before making any decisions, and apparently they found this to be the best course of action.

Well I'm glad that no one has to worry about their house for a while now.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by the not very subtle attempts to try and twist a viral pandemic into point scoring and taking sides over something as trivial as pixels in a video-game. It's odd how some posters around these parts try to make everything into a battle and falsely assume that everybody in even minor disagreement with them is some sort of hostile force.

I'm glad that the development team came to a decision, at any rate. We'll see how long it lasts - housing is a pretty major part of the game and locking the majority out of it indefinitely for the sake of the minority that is lucky enough to own a house is unlikely to go down well on a longer term basis.

It's a shame we can't disable the feature client side. If I don't log in at any point during a 45 day period, I would want my house to go to somebody else.
