Also I think they did this so gatherers could get scrips this time around in Ishgard Restoration instead of just crafters.
I find the new Diadem...soothing? I started playing long after the original Diadem was in its prime, and every time I got taken in with a group it felt really chaotic. I never knew where to go for what, what was going on, or even how to get to certain places like the different levels, which has specific entrance points I could never remember.
I was expecting the same but was pleasantly surprised at the simplified open map that just lets me zoom around, hitting things. The bazooka makes me chuckle and the steps are all incentivized well, imo. It’s chill content that I’ll keep coming back to while I decompress after battle content or pass time during dry content spells.
Edit: Oh, and I have a few friends that I swap mats with when we have something we don’t need but the other does. This could also be a thing if your FC wants to dedicate a page of the chest to donations and swapping items for others to use. An unnecessary inv sink for sure, though, I’ll give you that.

i just wish more node...
take too much time traveling between island...
and i do wish to be able to do it while queuing a duty which kinda controversial with the content www
My biggest issue is inventory management. There are just way too many damn items coming from it.
You need 2 completely empty tabs to store all of the non expert materials it will throw at you.
That is insane.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
The lesson here is not creating ridiculous expectations that were never going to be realized.
It sounds like you expected Diadem to be the crafter's version of Eureka. They didn't give any mention of that. Besides the link to Ishgard Restoration and Augr it was safe to assume it'd be the crafting part of the original and dead Diadem repurposed for something new.
I quite like it, it's relaxing and they repurposed existing assets for something that was pretty much a bust into something I actually want to run, where I can actually go in for however long I want to and not feel like I'm missing out for not doing the full lockout.
It's annoying to get a lot of materials you don't want but since me and my friends are doing turn ins with different crafters it's much easier to just go in as MIN/BTN and gather the item the other needs while getting ours and just trading afterwards. So it checks the social aspect as well (not to mention, what ISN'T used can still be sold)
It's literally just gathering as we've always been doing so your enjoyment will vary. The gun is a fun addition and the travel loop was well implemented so you're going in a zone-wide circle instead of small ones like in the overworld so that's nice for scenery I suppose. I do like that the best node conditions practically hinge on crafted/melded gear if you want maximum efficiency.
Too bad we can’t choose the materials we need.
I'd probably get more out of it if I hadn't already capped my jobs, but as a place to just fly around and gather, it's fine. Very glad I've been clearing out my retainers for the last couple of months, though.
Its a place for people to level gatherers and get mats for Ishgard. I want expecting much more than that, honestly. Though I would have loved some big event where we need to fire all the cannon shots for a big payoff. As it is, 5 charges is overkill.
