Trying to have fun in PvP again

So I used to be a huge PvPer back on my old account during the early days of ARR? and HW and I had such a good time during then. But after they completely changed everything (also since WHEN DID THEY REMOVE THE TRINKET AND THE ABILITY TO CHOOSE TRAITS??) i lost interest in PvP because of how mindnumbingly simple it has become. But, now that i’ve pretty much hit my peak with PvE, i want to get back into PvP again in a somewhat competitive level and was wondering what’s the best way to go about it in understanding how PvP works now. Also, as much as I hate to ask, is there any kind of preferred classes in Feast - or for the lack of a better term - a tier list?

Please don’t turn this into a hate thread, i’m simply trying to enjoy the game again.

Tanks, melee classes, whm,... and I've been told mch is a boss in there, I just cant seem to function it. I have a better time as dancer barely. It's hardly what I call fun, you either get lucky and have a beast group that slaughters everything or you spend your time respawning.

    1) The "trinket" was made a healer additional in 4.x. It is now a healer role option instead because CC was gradually added back into the game and naturally they didn't want this to be a case of Stormblood again where essentially Healer's would only had one additional to choose from because the other one would absolutely have to be purify.
    2) Ye RIP traits, also gone in 4.x. They felt there was just too much for new players to learn and that's why the mode historically hasn't done well; so they pruned it down.
    3) PvPaissa discord - https://discord.gg/sJpWet ; Also, make some friends. A lot of helpful players on Mana where you're based and imo the most HQ game quality; so hopefully your Japanese is good or you know people within the feast community there, as training q is active and vets dont mind you DMing them for help (but a lot of them don't speak any English) and when you're better you'll get customs LS invites (a few people run them, just play lots of training and you'll get invited; if training q doesn't pop they're in customs or doing RW).
    4) We just had a balance patch so there's no tier list. Generally at the moment everything is considered "good" - it's really hard to design these until LP teams start scrimming and even then, LP doesn't equate to solo queue, something that's strong in LP might necessarily be as good in solo q, realistically what's good and what isn't for ranked won't be shaped until a couple of weeks into the new season. Generally, I do not recommend Casters. IMO BLM is currently the best caster but it's strong relies on you already being decent enough to know what's safe and what isn't, if you play it as a newbie you'll most likely just get farmed.

yeah i understand FF is not a pvp game but a lot of my friends play FF so going to play a different game (such as WoW) isn’t really a favourable option for me haha. just tryna have as much fun as i can at the moment.

thanks for the thorough response. it seems a lot has changed in 4.x

they could have just made the trinket accessible as a base skill for all classes to allow for two slots for additional skills and keep proper CC play or whatever, but i guess that goes against the idea of dumbing down the skill cap for new players.

largely disappointed they changed stealth for NIN as well, not having it a skill but a 3 second timer that can pretty much by broken
by anything. not sure if it’s the game mechanics but LOS doesn’t really function as well as i hope it would either.

my japanese is fine, i lived in japan for a long time so i’ll have a look at that link you posted!

Dancer is still the best range. The survivability it gets in exchange for just a moderate burst is way too valuable in solo queue.

I think samurai and monk are pretty even now. They just have different options and samurai requires a little more brain juice so monk edges it out. In top games samurai performs better because samurai can be more jank whereas monk is just walk forward and burst.

Tanks, dark is still in a great position. We've never really seen how a 100% lifesteal works in pvp so I'm pretty interested to see if Warrior can carry games with nascent. Other than that Dark is still the best.

Healers , I know healing the least but ast and whm still have that dichotomy of one is easier than the other and whm is better than ast if you're new and ast is if you're experienced, but with the slight buff and nerf I can see that being a smaller gap and ast being more prevalent. People still gonna rock whm a lot because it's easier, might even get equal whm and ast games. Scholar, no clue, like 2 people played this job before and I haven't seen any of them give an opinion on it.

Yep, still has 3 dashes, almost impossible to catch unless they make a terrible mistake, can still play Bind Recup and be good even with the Conc buff and ofc Waltz, in terms of the buffs luckily Bard now brings similar to the table with either the same uptime but more flexibility (Minne) or better (Wanderers). But you have to play Conc or your Apex hits like a wet sock and I generally don't recommend playing a concless Bard atm the damage difference is just too much it's like a baby LB but instant. But you actually have to be good to even be as close to effective as DNC on Bard and for that reason and due to the nature of solo queue, the safer picks are always going to be the best (similar reason why Warrior has the potential to be one of the best LP tanks, but is going to be dog tier in solo queue still).

WHM is still probably going to be the dominant solo Q pick even though I theoretically class it as the worst LP healer, but it's the easiest to do well on and safest to play, because you're screwed on AST with no counterpressure and will OOM asap rocky and Scholar gets smoked if the foot comes off the gas for even a second and if you get a weaker team on SCH that plays super defensive just consider it a 600 after the first death and if you insist on going down that route you might as well play AST.

In terms of SCH opinions, let's remember Taru thought it was good last patch and still won games on it, but then again it's the same Taru who thinks Healers shouldn't have repose anymore because it's "inconsistent" lol. Horo on the other hand loves it. Idk if Dacien's tried it yet but there were never that many Scholar mains in the past, let alone now so it was always underpresented anyway.
