Game sound issue

Hey, so I got this weird issue as of this latest update. I was crafting in the ishgard area (the new stuff) and sometimes my own crafting sound would cut out while I could still hear the other crafters, like the sound stopped mid-way which was weird. Not long after I tabbed out of the game and the game crashed with xaudio2_9.dll error (there were like 8 of them), no dx11 ONLY the xaudio2_9.dll was on the crash report. What could be the issue since this has never happened before?

to add to this: I tried to find if the error is in the event viewer etc. but there is nothing to be found, no error anywhere. Only ffxiv crashed with xaudio2_9.dll in the new ishgard area (firmament) with lots of crafters crafting and me alt tabbing out. The crafting sound still cuts out sometimes on some people crafting, like the sound doesn't fully finish.

When exactly did this start happening? Do you recall anything changing/updating on your PC that coincides with this?

This error looks like it lists some audio drivers. What is your audio setup like (Headphones, Speakers, etc.)? Do these have have any special drivers or do you have multiple audio devices plugged in?

Can you submit a Final Fantasy XIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

I only "noticed" it now, from what I remember when firmament was initially released I had no issues (was some time ago). Since then I have reinstalled windows and did visit that place a few times and had no issues (same for eulmore when patch dropped = lots of people). So basically it started now, today had only that one crash so far but the audio of some crafters (my character as well) just gets cut short or can only hear the beginning of the action then it just cuts off (music and ambience still plays). I have not changed anything since the reinstall of windows that was around 3 months ago almost.

My setup is basically just headphones atm (DT 770 Pros 82ohm) with no special drivers (planning on one) just plugged directly to the mobo and updated drivers (attempted reinstall of them as well but it didn't change anything).

We noticed that your sound card drivers are a little out of date and newer patches are going to utilize newer driver versions. Please try updating/reinstalling the sound card drivers along with making sure the sound settings in-game are correct.

I just realized I’m legit having the same issue as yours but without crashing. The sounds are driving me nuts. I’m about to buy a USB headset with a sound card to see if it helps.

Can't really update the audio drivers because there are none that work for my motherboard apart from these (being the latest ones I can get). Theres no updates for it that I can get at the moment.


Rintorik, well I only had one crash and never experienced this issue (until this patch) so I have no idea whats going on lol and I have a diff headset with its own amp/dac and I still get the same issue.

What audio devices are you using? Have you tried using different audio devices? If you have multiple audio devices plugged in, have you tried each one as the only audio device plugged in? We would also like to recommend performing a Clean Boot on the desktop to see if the crashing continues. This will prevent any programs from starting up when the starting when the computer first boots up. This can end up having adverse effects on the game when these programs are running in the background. To perform a clean boot for Windows 10: Open the task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC.

So I have tried all the things and I have still not crashed (both with or without the clean boot for now), seems fixed for now.... that aside I still get audio cut outs from people crafting (including myself). If theres at least 8 ppl crafting some of them will just cut out mid craft (the audio) and then reappear again with the next action which never happened before. Clean boot doesn't fix that, changing my headset to my old semi-broken one doesn't help and even reusing the dac/amp from that headset on my current heaphones doesn't fix it.
