So In A Game Where In-Party Communication Is At Times Vital ...

... Squeenix disable /whisper in parties.

    LMAO.

In 8-man content it's usually very important for tanks and healers to communicate to organise things, so /whisper would be the preferred method in the absence of voice-chat .. and what PUGs use that?

Yet Squeenix have deliberately disabled this, forcing you to use /party or /say which are often spammed with battle messages, etc.

Why Squeenix, why did you implement this fatuous restriction?

You know you can turn off battle messages right? It not like they have any useful information

Why would you not use the party channel to communicate party strategies to your party, so everyone is on the same page regarding tactics?

If you need it to stand out in a different colour to standard chatter, use /shout or /yell.

In any case, we don't have a /whisper command. Direct messaging is /tell.

You could reduce clutter in the party box by whispering with your co-tank or co-healer about strategies only relevant to their role.

Wouldn't you want to do that before the fight starts? So is there even a point to use whisper? Plus wouldn't the rest of party want to know in case it's has an effect on them

Typically the party chat doesn’t have much going on for me so everyone just says whatever advice to whomever there. :1

And yeah, whispers in this game are /tell, which works just fine if both persons are in the instance, iirc. At least, I’ve had a friend do that before in the past, but that was a year ago, so maybe things were different.

Well, if you've been playing since 2016, I'm shocked you just now discovered this, considering it has been in the game since 2013.

They never implemented a change. You were never able to send tells in instances.

Yeah I personally don't think I'd ever whisper during an instance but I'm guessing what is OP's reasoning/argument.

I think you can also use linkshells during duty finder.

But I guess it could be annoying if you want to chat to someone outside of the linkshell/fc chat and you can't because you got into a duty and tells dont' work.

You can use linkshells and FC-chat while you're in a duty, yes.

I would like to argue though that if you want to chat someone outside of the duty, you shouldnt be in that duty but somewhere "safe" where you can focus on the chat. I dont want to make a case to disable all "outside" chat-functions during duties, but I admit that there have been situations where someone messed up multiple times or constantly stopped everything they did etc. and then it turned out they were having a conversation with their FC instead of paying attention to the duty. And that is very annoying for the 3 people who are in this duty with them.
Or in other words: If you queue up and get into a dungeon this dungeon should be your priority now, not chatting (as in typing) with other people. If your conversation is so important that it cant wait: Dont queue, withdraw the queue or leave the dungeon and have your chat in peace. I know that typing and fighting is possible, but it leads to more mistakes on both ends.

As for people needing to discuss healer or tank specific stuff: I dont think this needs to be kept away from the party, as in: there is no reason to use /tell. Most of the time there isnt much to discuss in the first place ("I tank left add, can you take right?" and "MT or OT?" are what tanks could communicate, but often dont even need to) and even if there was it might be important and/or intresting for the rest of the party - either because they know which tank to use buffs on, for example, where tanks will go etc. or because they might not be a tank/healer in this run but dont mind learning a bit about the things that tanks/healers need to look out for so they're better prepared should they choose to do a run as tank/healer in the future.
