I had a log-in queue yesterday of 20 people. That's sure some strained resources right there.Appreciate all the support for adding Limsa AFK timer and the thumbs-ups. Just for the record every evening since 5.2, there has been a login queue. Not to mention the Tuesday 'lag' city, people needing to use VPNs more, plus on-top of the frame rates getting shot for PS4 players.
People have tried to come up with fictional things "oh it's just a new patch it'll go away". We've been through a full a cycle, than a sweeping virus came around keeping people AFKing more in the game. At this point they could support re-adding a game-wide AFK timer to free up more network resources that already are getting strained.![]()
...and if players who were AFK for a lengthy period were kicked automatically from the server then there's a good chance that there wouldn't be a log-in queue in the first place, saving you precious seconds that would very much add up over time.
I'm going to take this as sarcasm because calling 30 seconds spent in a queue precious time lost is just plain hyperbole.

It's not sarcasm. The time spent in a queue may be typically brief most days but it still adds up over time to a decent amount. Forcibly logging people out who aren't actually playing the game for hours at a time would be beneficial in many ways. Not only in eliminating queues but also by making it easier for players to create characters on active servers in order to play with their friends.
Give me a break. This is the most ridiculous argument ever. If you're waiting several minutes in a queue, sure. And SE has implemented afk timers during times when these exist for just such a reason. I even fully support this. For an occasional 30 second queue during peak time? Not needed.
The number of AFK players does not impact the number of active accounts which is what character creation restrictions are based on. They're completely different things. AFK players are still active accounts whether they're logged in or not.

How odd. You were accusing me of hyperbole in a previous post yet resort to just that in your current post. It also seems to be quite the juxtaposition to your signature.
It contributes to the problem. There's two types of locks when it comes to character creation. One is a hard lock which is an outright ban on new characters for the set duration. The other is a soft lock which is tied to how many people are online on a server at the time. As someone who played on Balmung in the past I'm familiar with the soft lock and logging on at weird hours when fewer people were online proved to be an effective route for quite a while.
Uh... okay? Please enlighten me on how my signature relates to not wanting an AFK timer implemented. If it's something along the lines of "afk people restrict my ability to log into the game" then don't bother as that's laughable (particularly in light of the 30 second queues) and misses the point of the quote entirely. The actual meaning of that signature is that it is a Bioware game dev's response to a straight male's forum rant demanding that their games not have LGBT relationships in it at all because in said ranter's opinion games should only ever cater to the majority, meaning him.
