Thank you once again for proving my point about where this game is heading. The name calling is not warranted and uncalled for. The post was about the state of the game and the mentors actions that were very unbecoming. And thank you for also helping me further make my decision about weather to continue to play this game or not.

And in case you have forgotten, or just plain don't know, the rules, or expectations, of mentors in FFXIV:

Provide gameplay advice for new adventurers and other players.
Be an exemplar for player etiquette.
Invite new adventurers to the Novice Network and answer their queries in the chat channel.

Did they broke any rules idk im not GM, ToS is so wiggly and written so badly that it all depends on how good day the GM has so you cant 100% say they did broke any rules. They tend to not give any punishments if both sides were being involved like in your case, you openly called them bad, so you got the ball thrown back at you, what else should i have to say here?

I dont know if you played other mmorpgs before, but having some distance to what people say is the trait you should get before entering any of these games, because as i told before other mmorpgs does not have such harsh ToS and random rules and people tend to be waaaay more aggressive than what you experienced in this game today.
The state of the game is fine, welcome to the massive multiplayer online genre, you have people from all around the world with different attitudes and cultures.

Well, if you must know, I am actually a former game developer and one of the cardinal sins in a game if you are a person who hold some point of authority is no matter how bad a player talks to you is to keep your composure and do not argue or abuse your power to get one over on the player. And let me tell you that in my forums and games I've developed I've been talked down too by players before but no matter how bad it got I never banned, muted, or talked back to a player in such a way. Actually I did the opposite and in some cases brought the player aside and talked to them privately and asked what was wrong and how I could fix their problem or do better.

And you know what? 99% of the time I resolved that player's issue and never had an issue with them again. Now, I say 99% because there is always that 1 or 2 people that no matter what you can do for them they'll never be happy.

Mentor burger king crown is being given to everyone without investigation of what person is like.
You have a mix of people in the novice chat that is being used as a global chat, because devs refuse to create one for everyone. You should realize what it boils down to, its basically a global "elite" chat used mainly for spam and fun.
You will have exactly same if not worse experience if you into neverwinter zone chat in protector enclave... actually its going to be 10 times worse.

I'm not sure how many times it needs to be said: There should be absolutely zero rewards for becoming a mentor. It's that kind of system that paves the way for toxic players to ride right on in.

True mentors in the game get a sense of accomplishment when they know they've helped other players. That is their reward. That is why the true mentors in this game have no crown.

I could see the mentors trying to be funny, but just coming off being jerks. They also very well could just be being jerks on purpose. It’s hard to get the tone right with text sometimes. I know I’ve said some things that could come off as hostile to those who don’t know me. Im not sure with your reply. I’m a believer that you shouldn’t respond with hostility to someone you think is being hostile. I’ve noticed it just makes things worse and it doesn’t actually solve anything.

What I find annoying is people complaining about people being jerks, but then not reporting them. How can their behavior get fixed if they don’t get punished by SE? People tend to hold their tongues if they are facing a ban or suspension. You can’t just ignore the problem and complain about it. Do something about it, or someone else is gonna fall victim to that person.

Mentors have no authority. Like at all. The NN is just a glorified linkshell. The crown honestly means nothing. All you have to do to get it is meet the battle or crafting requirements, that arent even hard to achieve. The commendation req is also just pointless, as you don’t even need to do anything meaningful to get one. It can mean “I pity you” “I like your glamour” “you’re wearing my favorite color” “lalafell!” Etc. Mentors aren’t special. In theory they should be, but in reality they’re not. They’re just like everyone else, just with a Burger King crown slapped next to their name.

Actually, it's the opposite. In theory, they should not be special, just people with enough experience/knowledge of the game and the willingness and ability to help. In reality, they get a special crown, free access to an exclusive chat channel with the ability to kick someone else (which admittedly can be useful but also abused), a chance at an exclusive mount, along with (I believe) extra experience points when grouped with new adventurers (although that last one is definitely a good thing).

Well, I think the biggest reason why I didn't take the time to report them is probably because it's not worth it. As someone replied earlier, the good people are starting to become outnumbered by the bad people. Another reason is that if SE decided to investigate, I myself don't have any evidence against them, no screenshots or real evidence about what they were doing, so it would mostly be my word vs theirs and they could just make up any story they want to make themselves justified unless SE had some way to check back on the chat logs and read up on what happened but this is just a waste of time in my opinion. Karma will catch up to them sooner or later and I can live with that.

No, I think I'll just stick with my original decision and probably just move on. Probably won't be re-subbing, and not just because of the actions of these mentors, although it does rank up there, but I haven't made up my mind yet.
