FF14 shuts my entire computer down

I have been playing this game for years, and i haven't had any major issues. But recently it has been shutting my computer down completely. This started happening about 3 or so days ago. Usually i would alt tab and watch videos while i wait in queue or whatever. But whenever i play FF14 and alt tab and return to the game client it shuts down my computer and forces a restart. This has been happening only with FF14. I haven't had this happen to any other game i play. I have tested this with multiple games and no shut down, only FF14. I can still play the game perfectly fine, but i cannot alt tab for too long otherwise when i tab back to FF14 it will just shut off my computer.

I opened up my computer and cleaned out dust, my fans are working everything seems to be fine. I updated my drivers because i was missing an update. That didn't fix it.

I don't know what else to do, and it frustrates me. Even though i'm capable of playing the game, being locked out of everything from my computer bothers me to no end. How can i go from playing this game perfectly fine for years and then suddenly having this huge issue?

Do you have the AFK camera enabled? If so, try disabling it. Have you tried switching between windowed, full-screen, and borderless windowed? Perhaps disabling full-screen optimization in Windows for this game would help. You should also poke around Event Viewer and see if you can find any errors that coincide with the restart happening. Finally, if you've updated Windows since the issue started occurring, try rolling back.

Is the power supply getting old? Maybe it's like the load is getting too much when there's too many characters in one zone especially if you aren't using the option to limit fps while tabbed out. Just a stab in the dark.

It could possibly be my power supply, its 4 years old. And no this happens even when i'm sitting alone at my house. I do have fps limited when tabbed/afk.

Just open your Windows menu and type in "Event Viewer" to find the utility. I'm no expert, but you can go in and just poke around, looking at recent errors and warnings for some clues as to what is malfunctioning on your system. That's usually my step one when troubleshooting. If your PC is forcing a restart, there's likely to be some sort of error logged in there.

I have the same GPU as you, and it shouldn't be overheating while playing this game. Perhaps you could try using a program like Precision X to force a more aggressive fan curve if you suspect that's the case.

Yes FF14 is the only program running, aside from my browser where i alt tab to watch videos while i am in queue or afking.

I think i resolved the issue, but i want to do more testing to be 100% sure. I have been running the game on unlimited fps.But I have now limited the game to 60fps and turned on adaptive v-sync from the nividia control panel. I have been alt tabbing and my computer hasn't shut down on me. I think it may have been a gpu overheating issue. Since i have put it on 60 fps my computer has gone down from about 70c to like 50-60c. My fan is only working at 25% because it isn't even getting that hot now.

It just baffles me that i have been playing uncapped fps on max graphics for so long and suddenly this issue started a few days ago.
