So In A Game Where In-Party Communication Is At Times Vital ...

... Squeenix disable /whisper in parties.

    LMAO.

In 8-man content it's usually very important for tanks and healers to communicate to organise things, so /whisper would be the preferred method in the absence of voice-chat .. and what PUGs use that?

Yet Squeenix have deliberately disabled this, forcing you to use /party or /say which are often spammed with battle messages, etc.

Why Squeenix, why did you implement this fatuous restriction?

You know you can turn off battle messages right? It not like they have any useful information

The people who do this are the same people that complained Steps of Faith was too challenging.
There was an NPC giving the party instructions the entire fight.

Maybe they are referring to the damage/status messages that I think still are enabled by default? I know when I first started playing at 2.0 launch I was all "wtf is this crap?" and promptly hid it. NPC battle messages are still displayed the way I have mine set. And pre nerf Steps was just awesome, so much fun

Why would you not use the party channel to communicate party strategies to your party, so everyone is on the same page regarding tactics?

If you need it to stand out in a different colour to standard chatter, use /shout or /yell.

In any case, we don't have a /whisper command. Direct messaging is /tell.

You could reduce clutter in the party box by whispering with your co-tank or co-healer about strategies only relevant to their role.

I don't think I've ever seen a party chat cluttered to a point where this would be a necessity - and even so, there's still benefits to be had from coordinating something with your entire team over one specific person. If you're a tank and want to coordinate with your off-tank, chances are, you want your healers in on whatever you're coordinating anyway, to optimize healing done. This being but one single exemple.
There's simply not enough benefit from implementing something like this or disabling this restriction, considering the existing communication means the cons that being able to /t in dungeons would bring.

Then on your specific point - why should their communication be hidden from the rest of the party?

Why shouldn't your party see that you are discussing tactics just because it doesn't directly, personally involve them? It keeps them informed.

And as I said to specifically address your point about the party chat being cluttered, you can use another layer of public chat to have that conversation stand out in a different colour for visibility.

I see no need for the discussion to be private.

Your point made no sense. Party chat exists for party communication. Tells don't facilitate party communication. Even DPS have a need to know what healers and tanks have planned.

Tells do facilitate targeted harassment that players are trying to hide from the rest of the party, though, and that is why they need to remain disabled.
