PC crashes at random with no errors

Update: Since March 16th, I've been experiencing crashes only during MSQ cutscenes. It happens randomly but getting rather frequent. It seems to only crash when I have it on full screen window-mode (with border) and it will stop after I've reduced the window size.

Would appreciate any advise to fix this issue as I'm unsure if the issue lies in the game itself or my PC.

Update (As of 24th March): Crashing issue occurs VERY frequent and it's totally random now. It crashes in towns, side quest cutscenes, in the middle of a battle etc.

What exactly happened:
- MSQ cutscenes (voiced) still crashes my PC at random
- Doing Alexander side quest and the game will crash my PC during cutscene/dungeon battle at random
- Upon logging into Tamamizu, the game will crash my PC after a short while (This happened 3 times consecutively)
- MSQ, reaching a purple point for enemy to spawn and it crashes
- Returned to the same point and managed to defeat enemy, but a short while after, it crashed again

Troubleshoot:
Reducing the window size during voiced MSQ cutscenes made it stopped crashing before but it's starting to lose effect. As for the others, I honestly have no idea what should I do at this point as I've tried every single troubleshooting steps out there.

I'll do a clean uninstall of my Nvidia driver and reinstall them from scratch once more as it seemed to kind of fixed the issue for a week or so the last time? I'm not even sure if it was even fixed back then. It's just weird that it's alright for a week then the crashing issue starts getting frequent by each week. Doesn't make any sense to me.

My PC's spec should be able to run this game without any issues, and I can run other games with no such problems. My PC tower is clean with no clogging, Nvidia drivers reinstalled from scratch, FFXIV game reinstalled from scratch, all start up programs disabled, discord overlay disabled, playing the game without opening any browser or chat programs etc but the issue just keeps coming back.

It's starting to get really annoying and I'm losing patience as I just can't identify if it's a hardware issue or if there's just something wrong with the game.

UP this thread, as I'm also getting the same random crash on my Rx5700Xt card when playing FFXIV in DX11

The crash is consistent on Shiva Savage instance.

What I did to fix most of the problem is to play FFXIV in DX9 which makes the game a little laggy.

Please note that I can play other games without any issues and this are rather heavier games.

I wish I can update this thread with good news, but unfortunately the crashing issue has happened again.

After the maintenance last week, I've mentioned in my previous post that I've also tried to do a clean uninstall of all my Nvidia drivers/app from my PC through Window Settings. From then, I've been playing an average of 2 hours per day with no issues at all.

Today, I've been playing since morning, for over 7 hours now, played multiple trials, leveling dungeons and MSQ dungeons. Everything was fine until the cutscene after defeating the boss in "The Singularity Reactor (MSQ)". The scene shows Estinien receiving the eye that the WoL handed over and he was saying something.

That moment is when the game crashed my PC. What happened was the same, with my PC's fan blasting at full speed, screen turns black and the background music playing. I had to do a manual restart of my PC to actually get anything to work.

After a restart, I went back into the game and the game restarted the cutscene. Once again, it crashed at the very same scene. The crashing on the same scene happened 3 times.

However, on the 4th time, I tried to reduce to the size of the game's window to the smallest size it can get before the scene (about the size of a default youtube video? it might be slightly bigger) and it stopped crashing. It's awfully weird and I'm not sure if it's my PC that is causing it or the game?

Would appreciate any advise!

Exactly the same thing is happening to me: now even a few seconds after entering with any of my characters there is a strange sound and not only the game but also the PC is blocked and I must disconnect the computer and restart it.
And like other users with other games it does not happen.

This has also been happening to me as of a few days ago. I'm on for about 5min and it just crashes to desktop with no errors.

I have tried everything highlighted in this thread, including a full re-install and re-installing all my drivers.

I have had this happen before, but it would happen rarely (once every two weeks about), though now it is happening constantly.

in my thread, it seem the only way to get this fix and i dont believe we should have to do this since its their patch update that making the crash, is to reinstall your OS... yes thats right reinstall your OS not just the game but the whole OS. if you dont have a custom rig or the windows USB and Key. doing so you might mess up your rig... you can always do a restore to default but at what cost... losing song, video, picture, MEME.... i mean you can do a restore and keep files but that might keep the file the FFXIV is in still crash...

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

DullReaper, we would like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:

1) Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card.
2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs.
3) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
4) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
5) Reset system settings to default from the config menu on launcher.

We would also recommend the following browser troubleshooting:

- The game will use the Internet Explorer web browser to connect to the internet. Open Internet Explorer, then open the "Tools" setting, go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
- Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
- Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
- Under the "Privacy" tab, click “Advanced” and select ‘Accept’ under both First Party and Third Party Cookies.
- Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
- Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
- Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.
- Right-Click on the FFXIV launcher icon and select "Properties"
- Hit "Apply", then "OK" to save the changes.
- Please RESTART your PC now. Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"

OP - I was having this exact same issue on FF, Overwatch, and other games. PC would hard crash, all fans would kick into overdrive.

I replaced my PSU and I haven't had any PC crashes since. I am now having issues where FFXIV just randomly disappears with no error or anything, but my entire system doesn't crash...

You could be having a power supply issue like I was..OR..

If you're running discord, try disabling hardware acceleration in the options (there two separate places) - this is causing crashes for some people.

Where is the second place to turn off hardware acceleration on discord? I did the one under Settings > Appearance.
