People that say this game is too easy

Question. Have you ever seriously played any other Western MMOs? Like WoW or SWTOR? I'm asking because SWTOR used to be my main game until I really got into FFXIV a few years ago. This is my home and I have no plans of ever going anywhere else.

But I still dabble in SWTOR occasionally, just to check things out. I miss my characters over there sometimes, and full disclosure: I'm a huge Star Wars nerd.

So, last night I was running an instance in SWTOR with a random PUG. We were all DPS. No tanks or healers. Boss fights consist of healing terminals and whoever deals the most damage, usually gets the aggro. The boss usually ends up ping ponging all over the place.

It was chaotic but fun. But even then, I had no worries of ever dying. And I didn't. Not once.

In FFXIV? There would have been wipes. Coming from games like WoW, SWTOR, and trying out other games like LOTRO and DCUO for example, you can mindlessly zerg your way through group content near effortlessly. And players are nigh indestructible.

FFXIV does actually expect more from you even in normal dungeons. You must constantly dodge AOE, watch for telegraphs, look for visual clues from the boss and do all the mechanics correctly. If not you die instantly. Doesn't matter how well you've been playing up to that point. Any dungeon from 50 up is far more challenging than anything I've encountered in those other games I've played.

So, I'm just curious. Unless you've exclusively played Eastern MMOs, which do seem more challenging, what makes you think this game is too easy?

Compare literally any jobs rotation to Feral Druid in WoW.

Compare gearing up a job to Agent in Anarchy Online.

Compare any dungeon to any found in games like Rift, ESO or Tera.

Then tell me that FFXIV is hard. A game where trash mobs come down to "Pull as many packs as the hallway will allow because they have to physically block people otherwise they'll pull from boss to boss". Where healing and tanking is a game of "Simon Says" with the boss. Where 99% of all attacks from enemies use bright yellow telegraphs (In addition to having big flashing neon signs telling you when an attack needs you to stack on the target to share the damage)

The only difficulty in FFXIV is when you have to group with other players, that are so used to how mindnumbingly easy the game is that their brain as seemingly melted out of their ears so they play awfully even in high level content.

I consider it easy because I pay attention while I'm playing. FFXIV is really only challenging if you're splitting your attention or uh. Asleep at the helm.

FFXIV not being braindead easy doesn't mean it's not still easy in a way. Non-savage/ultimate content is just memorizing things, and doesn't require a lot of coordination or communication.

Most people I've seen who say it's "too easy" without actually explaining what they mean are either making a comment about how slow the GCDs are (regardless of how bloated some of the rotations are endgame), or are just trivializing content to put others down and make themselves feel better ("that content you find hard is easy for me because I (finally) got it down, therefore I am better at this game than you").

Of course there are some people who want more or different kinds of challenges, but they tend to express that better than the ones who just say "this game is too easy".

And still others are just looking for something this game isn't designed to be and aren't going to find it here anyway.

I guess if you don't do any of the difficult content in xiv it's going to be pretty easy, yeah.

14 is a 'My First MMO' game.

Its part of the dumbed down generation of MMO's, where everything you have to do is marked with giant circles or dots (or dots in circles) on your minimap, you have multicolored "Talk to this guy over here" for each different type of quest the game offers, and quests are significantly dumbed down. It has a significant GCD and animation locking that prevents you from being able to mechanically have a high APM for a majority of the game, and its not requiring you to make difficult choices in that slower gcd. You arent having to figure out what to Crowd Control, because lolthatsnotathing. You arent planning what mobs to burn down first, you're spinning in circles ae'ing everything all the time forever, unless theres only 1 or maybe 2 things there. You arent going through checkdowns of having to debuff this thing or root this thing out of melee range, or kite this thing around while the rest of the group does something else, because nothing requires that, just keep spinning in circles.

Sure, you can speedrun Hammer Station with full dps in SWtoR when you outgear the content but you need the box progression to a higher tier so you can get better augments finally because what even is that loot system anyway, but thats the same as running most content in 14. You can easily faceroll content in 14 that you outgear and outlevel, its not a swtor thing by any means. I can derp my way through old EQ content solo, but that doesnt mean current era content cant double or quad for 70k an autoattack requiring significant healing spikes.

If you arent specifically seeking out the hard content in 14, there are very few spots where you're going to be challenged. Thats not the same in older-gen MMO's, where part of getting to the endgame was overcoming the different challenges.

Tactical FPs are hardly faceroll. I've seen plenty of party wipes and disbands in ones like Mando Raiders, that Manaan FP, and the Rishi one with Shae Vizla because even the kolto stations aren't enough if you're unlucky enough to get a full dps group.

The big one for me is dying in FFXIV is pretty much a wrist slap as combat resurrections are almost always available including healer LB3 if needed.

In other games combat resurrections have really long cooldowns or are heavily restricted. So in normal FFXIV content that lack enrages you can pretty much throw bodies at the bosses for quite a long time (24 mans being the biggest offender) until you run out of MP or Red Mages but ending up in that situation would require a really large amount of screw ups.

In harder content, at the very least the enrage is there to put more emphasis on not dying.

SWTOR! I miss the glory days of that game, Pot5 vet here, the most toxic east coast pvp server represent!

Anyway, no I disagree you can eat a lot of mechanics in dungeons and get away with it. I was half afk tanking a boss last night, ate every single mechanic and did not use any cds, completely fine. Trash mobs, I actually pulled gigantic, as big as I could, the white mage was wasting cds and we still could pull it off. In general (and I'm talking about regular content) This game starts feeling "difficult" when you have subpar players, and a large proportion of the playerbase are not very good. It's more of fighting against the playerbase than the actual content itself.

I feel like they should increase all incoming damage in (most) normal instances.
