Allow us to change our "secondary" weapon glamours for monk.

You know how paladin can have red flamey sword and blue flamey shield? I think it would be nice if we are given the option to change our left and right monk weapons as well. Also rdm rapiers and magicked crystal medium could be glammed differently too and it would be cool tbh. I don't think itll be too difficult to implement

The reason it works for PLD is because they actually have an offhand. The sword and shield are two different items. MNK fists are technically one item (you don't have to earn your left and right fists the same way a PLD has to earn his sword AND shield). Same with RDM mediums, they're technically part of the rapier and not an independent thing.

I haven't touched mch. I haven't even unlocked it. It's very silly but part of the reason is the lunchbox. I really hate how it looks. I'm also generally not too fond of super techy classes, but the lunchbox is a contributing factor.

Considering every shield after ronkan has exactly the same block rate and strength, im starting to think they should start merging the shields in to the sword slot aswell like every other single job in the game. PLD is that weird outlier.

2.0 Veteran from 2013. Just looking to be helpful. DRK is Love, DRK is life.

(Ignore the levels on my character card, the tool i used to make it hasn't been updated for 4.0)

The fact that it would kill shield glamours is probably the only reason they haven't already done that.

Applying ingame logic like that, sure, but it still doesn't make sense considering rapiers and magicked crystal are vastly different from each other that it deserves to be an off-hand as well. What makes sword/shield so different that it gotten "off-hand" stats is beyond me. It still wouldn't hurt to have them glammed differently for classes like nin, rdm, mnk and so on.

One idea would be to give all classes (or at least some) an off-hand "tool" that serves no purpose other than to apply glamours that overwrites the appearance of a part of your character, such as MCH lunchbox or your left hand weapon. We know adding an off-hand to a class is possible with the code due to Fisher and spearfishing. This glamour off-hand could even customize things like Warriors tank stance aura or the colour of WhM spells or add other little vanity tweaks.

I think every job that has "two weapons" should be able to convert old weapons into a glamour item that sits in the shield slot and functions as a glamour for your off-hand.

For example, in mock up above the HoH RDM weapon has been converted to a statless crystal focus. When placed in the shield slot it overrides the floating crystal that normally accompanies the Murgleis Anemos with the one from the Empyrean Rapier.

Rogue/Ninja should be able to do it with daggers, Pugilist/Monk with different fist weapons and Dancer with their chakrams.

Code-wise, the sword and shield are two separate models within the system FFXIV uses to assemble final appearances of things. Monk weapons, the rapier and focus, the dual blades for ninja, etc... those are one model. Anything else aside—and as much as the ability to hide the lunchbox would make me more willing to play MCH—it seems likely that to do that they'd have to go back and split every one of those assets up. Not impossible by any means, but definitely not trivial.

Then there's the fact that literally every off-hand weapon other than shields are invisible until being used (DoH/DoL); shields seem to be special cases inasmuch as they appear alongside the main-hand one. This is, so far as I can tell, because the character rendering system has specific attachment points; one for each of the jobs, one for shields, and ones for main hand/off hand props. (Holding a goblet of wine, holding out a thing in the palm of your hand, etc.) That suggests each of those jobs would need the rendering code changed; you'd need a new rendering slot for the RDM focus, for the MCH lunchbox, etc.

Doesn't mean it's not a feature they might want to consider, just that "it shouldn't be too hard to do" doesn't necessarily mean it's not still potentially a fair pile of easy-but-time-consuming work.

I aim to make my posts engaging and entertaining, even when you might not agree with me. And failing that, I'll just be very, VERY wordy.
