I am fine with the challenge that remains. That's the idea of fishing afterall.

it'd be more fun were like the manderville saucer minigames where you gotta time it to reel in the fish, and not just rng
There was a similar minigame for fishing in 1.0.
Unlike logging and mining, it never got recreated.
It was essentially the same as logging mind you.

I still need Helicoprion, I have 5 other fish but I can never get the timing down to be there at the right time. That's using a 3rd party website to track weather.
Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.
Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!
I still think there should be Gold Saucer fishing tournaments. There's no way Godbert doesn't keep those ponds and fountains stocked with all sorts of interesting fish.
Anyway, I'm fine with big fishing as is. There are a few annoyances that could be fixed but big fishing is self contained optional content with few tangible rewards. There's no reason to change it.
I think fishing in this game is just ridiculous when it comes down to the requirements that they have to be caught with like build in 4-5 rng based mechanics, and for what all this in the end? Just to get a ???? entry lesser in your archive und somewhen eventually some lousy few achivement points nobody else than you cn see or cares even about how much others have...
For something that mostly always can't even be placed into an aquarium to show others what you did do for a feat there.
Fishing in this game should become completely reworked for when PS4 support stops and the game gets its next overhaul for the next gen and it should work much more like FF15's fishing, which is hands down much better.
Fishing needs to become skillbased and not absurdly luck based beyond everything what is good and evil.
Everything what a fisher player should have to do to catch any fish in FF14 is
- Bring proper equipment that gives the required catch stats
- Use the right bait
- use correctly your fisher skills to help out this way to catch wat you want
- fish at the right time/moment at the correct spots/living points of what you want to catch...
This endless mooch-mooch-mooch-mooching needs to get removed, its just a plain stupid and boring as annoying as hell method thast is vefy uncreative too, just there too make things more complicated and difficult, than they need to be.
Or do we have to catch in real life also too first at midnight, while it's raining 4 differen't fishes mooched from each other, just to be able to catch a fish that we need as bait to mooch with it the actual target fish you wan?
No, we don't, because thats plain simply said totally unrealistical. Fishing in FF14 needs to become more realistical, if it tries already going on the route of hyperrealism by simulating that you can catch certain fishes only at right times, with correct weather and fitting baits, then should this rule of thumb also rule out totally unexplainable unrealistical omni-mooching, which exists only out of dev uncreativity, because they knew no better way to make otherwise fishing more challening, other then depending themself as usually always on putting everything full with rng mechanics everywhere n in this case even multiple times after another.
Disgusting, creates in me just a feeling of competely not caring about it as content, instead of having actually fun with it.._
Would a want to play rng games, i'd go directly into a Casino and not go fishing in FF14, just only that I can't lose real money here, nor win some.
Mooch is one of the more interesting and creative fishing mechanics, would be very upset to see it go.
I think big fishing is great right now; some fish are simple but the harder ones are different in unique and interesting ways. Love it.
you realize it has to be rng in an 24/7/365 online MMO otherwise everyone would just blow thru the fishing log just by bringing the right bait at the right time and everything is just given to you. the rng is there to gate progress.I think fishing in this game is just ridiculous when it comes down to the requirements that they have to be caught with like build in 4-5 rng based mechanics, and for what all this in the end? Basically. A lot of the fishing suggestions I see from people who don't enjoy fishing are just "remove the gameplay, make it Sightseeing Log 2".
Yeah its fine to have it, but thats by far no plausible reason for it to use it like crazy multiple times after another, like having to mooch four times after another with a catched fish the next one you need, most likely even in HQ just to make it much more complicated, just to have a chance at getting what you want.
Fishing needs to be in first line skill based, not luck based, it's completely fine to have Mooch as a means to get natural baits that aren't buyable anywhere and to diversify the methods of catching specifi fish species, where its natural that there are carnivorous bigger fishers going for your mooches
But 4 times in a row is exaggerating it. maximum 2 mooches should be enough. Would be far more interesting, if SE added more different waya t manipulate your fishing outcom, other then mooching, the hook and bait or daytime/weather, like for example the fish density of a fishing location in regard of how many people have fished at a spot over a certain time to prevent overfishing...
