I've been nursing a theory that the number of Chakra Gates associated with Monks (and everybody in general) is a correlation to the Sundering of the Source. Fourteen Gates = a Gate for each Shard, plus the Source. By unlocking them, someone takes a step closer to achieving a pre-Sundering physical state in regards to aetheric capacity and unmitigated access to it.

The 1.0 Echo ability that allowed player characters to interact with the past and change the memory of those who they met (but not drastically alter it) has been translated to the ability to perform sidequest content out of the intended story order, except this time the changes are real and tangible instead of imaginary, which is why the result of the changes can be seen in your own memory (The Unending Journey quest progress dialogue) as well.

I could go on for hours about mine...

tl;dr: On his way to the First, Archie got lost and wound up on AU Draenor from WoW. He helped the Army of the Light defeat what was left of the Mag'har Orcs (who were themselves led by my Undead Warlock) and inadvertently caused a Flood of Light to destroy AU Draenor entirely. Archie and the Warlock both escape to Azeroth through a mage portal. Archie can't figure out how to get to the First from Azeroth and winds up making a deal with the Warlock, who's on a quest to rescue the souls of his raid team from Gorak Tul. They succeed with the help of my Sunsinger/Dawnblade Warlock from Destiny and a really ludicrously overpowered Pikachu (my main on my original Blue Rescue Team file). The Guardian's Ghost is able to figure out a way to get Archie back on track to the First, and so he heads that way, bringing a crystal of Darkness given to him by the Undead Warlock, and that's when Shadowbringers happens.

Following the events of Shadowbringers, Archie returns to the Source and heads to the Rising Stones expecting a hero's welcome, only for Tataru to run up and punch him in the face and go into a full-on mental breakdown. Prior to leaving for the First, Archie hooked up with Y'hmitra (Y'shtola's sister and the Summoner job trainer, for those who haven't leveled Summoner), and he came home to a litter of catgirls and a very broke and very stressed "Auntie" Tataru.

Eventually, there's another huge battle between the Eorzean Alliance and the Garleans, led by Zenos. Archie shows up and fights Zenos, fight ends in a stalemate. Zenos deploys a Black Rose ripoff, Archie's Blessing of Light protects him and the important NPCs near him, but all the grunts die. They're now hopelessly outnumbered, so Archie summons my Undead Warlock using that crystal of darkness he still has with him. My Warlock was conveniently harvesting Scourge souls in the meantime (for a completely unrelated side project) and decides to deploy them into all the corpses laying around everywhere. Of course, everyone in this universe is used to Hildibrand-style zombies, so none of the Garleans have any idea how to deal with psycho bloodthirsty zombies, and that's what evens the odds. My Warlock drops an Infernal one rock at a time (his preferred way of doing that) and Zenos smashes every rock to bits one at a time, only for all the rubble to coalesce into an army of miniature Infernals and overrun the Garlean officers' camp along with the rest of the zombies. They ultimately defeat Zenos with Zerg-rush-style tactics; despite having the Echo and a lot of legitimate combat prowess, he simply can't keep up with everything at once and an NPC (either Estinien or Gaius) eventually tries to steal the kill, only to wind up being a distraction as Archie himself deals the finishing blow. My Warlock uses Soulstone trickery to secure and destroy Zenos' soul and then returns to Azeroth, having repaid Archie for helping him with Gorak Tul.

I always figured the Hildebrand stuff is just the WoL having a weird dream and that Hildebrand is a legit person but don't actually do detective work. Case in point, Godbert is shown in one instances in a side quest, completely straight faced and acting 'normal'. Hildebrand and Nashu are seen in the background of another sidequest, running around but nothing crazy happening.

The WoL is actually the villain that set the whole story of FFXIV in motion. They came up with the concept for the Hero in the days of Amaurot, but the idea for a hero requires an opposing force or threat to stop. Given this, the other members of the Convocation rejected the idea, causing the ancient form of the WoL to unwittingly bring about the end of the world with their secret creation lab, a "Devil's Lab," if you will, hidden in the underground.

Only, the creations the WoL brought about wrested free from his control, gaining souls without consent, and they were far too powerful for his "heroic" self to stop. Events snowballed into the calamity. In the present, we play the WoL with amnesia of their past self. Now we get to fulfill the concept of a Hero, through and through.

We didn't join up with the Hydaelyn creators because we believed ourselves only capable of making monsters. Plus, we had to contend with our misbegotten creations still left from the Devil's Lab, which were now tied to Zodiark, because we tied them to the planet itself in the form of elemental avatars. Being tied to Zodiark meant that he would not erase them.

So when we make the Primals in Eden, the reason they come out looking completely different is because we're actually unwittingly drawing on our first memories of them, when we made them through the lab in the past. This is why Titan has an ATV.

The only exception being Shiva, but this is only a silly thing I cooked up as an excuse for the game to reference the Magitek Research Facility... and more importantly remix Devil's Lab. God, I would kill for that. And yeah, I know, Castrum Abania references both the Magitek Research Facility and Mako Reactors pods within its dungeon design, but I want big glass tubes with Phantom Beasts floating in transparent goo, dang it!

Not just that, the Magitek Research Facility is a literal area of the Praetorium, specifically the section where you're piloting magitek armour and have to blow away Protoultima Arms that block your way. Alas, it lacks Devil's Lab... But the Magitek Research Facility is already in the game.

Remind me to go through Praetorium even more slowly next time I get it. MSQ roulette has been nothing but Castrum lately...

One of Gosetsu's grandfathers was hyur. I know Koji said that he isn't mixed-race like Hilda, so -> grandparent (slightly different! ).

There is a population of refugee Raen Au Ra in Thanalan that fled there decades ago when the empire started expanding into Othard. Narumi of the Songbirds is from that community.

Off the top of my head, these are a few of the personal head canons I've been calling for years:
    • Godbert and Julyan are the final bosses of the FFXIV universe-- and their vast wealth makes them the first verified Trillionaires
    • Rowena is second to them on the Trillionaires list-- and Gerolt wants to keep helping her get richer so that one day he can remarry her, file for divorce (again?), then claim half. Either that or both of them have always been in cahoot and have been laughing at all our backs for ages-- plus, Drake is their secret son. Aaah yes-- Gerolt is also actually both Rhalgr and Bygrot-- just depends on how drunk he is.
    • Gaius, the six Coco brothers and three Ascians were all in a band-- they went touring in masked disguise for years. Gaius can play the guitars, drums and the sax-- when the three Ascians demanded extra royalties and that he stop making them look bad on stage, he permanently hushed them up-- then kept their masks as souvenirs.
    • Aymeric likes getting impossibly drunk with me every time I visit Ishgard and he makes it a point to puke on House Dzemael's doorsteps afterwards-- you see, they've recently developed a habit of constantly annoying him in the new House of Lords. It's also why he took away all their construction contracts and gave them to House Haillenarte.
    • By the way, Aymeric is still clueless about Lucia's advances so she continues to ship several of his fangirls off to Ghimlyt-- as a former elite operative, she's brilliant at eliminating the competition
    • Hydaelyn and Zodiark are petulant twin siblings who started this whole silly business all because of a disagreement about which anime to watch-- we really should be worrying about how messed up things will really get when their parents return from vacation.
    • Which begs the question-- any correlation between Hydaelyn + Zodiark's parents and the two "individuals" referred to in item number one of this list? What does that make Hildy?
    • Cid and Nero are absolutely besotted with one another-- the intellectual innovations from their union amasses them enough wealth to place third on the Trillionaires list. They are also the true inventors of Omega-- they went back in time, built an AI they couldn't control, then came back to the present hoping nobody will notice their screw up.
    • Other shippings happening are Hein + Cirina; Magnai + Sadu; Tataru + Wedge; Aldis + Mylla; Rhoswen + Carvallain-- by the way, anyone notice how recently Pipin becomes very flustered every time the Sultana passes nearby?
    • Speaking of relationships-- Zenos is just obsessively enamoured with us because even after he tried to impress by turning into Shinryu, we still didn't give him the hug he always wanted-- a simple hug. He still doesn't understand that we can't stand him because of his insanely excessive sweet tooth.
    • While we're on the matter of Zenos, I reckon he has a very formidable sister who has been backpacking through Hydaelyn--and while passing through Dalmasca, she became secret besties with Fran and Ashe. Rumour holds that they want to start a Sisterhood but need a fourth member.
    • Kan-E-Senna likes to wear multi-coloured stockings which have now become the fashion rage of Gridania-- however, her two siblings vehemently disapprove.
    • Not to be outdone, the illustrious Admiral Merlwyb has also fitted the entire insides of her coat with multi-coloured velvet-- and then took it a step further by commissioning the embroidery of her beloved destrier chocobo Vicky on all her gloves. Her approval rating has now rocketed to 98% amoung the Limsa populace.
    • Raubhan truly and absolutely LOVES karaoke-- and has a surprisingly great voice.
    • Also not to be outdone, Hien has now tried to take up karaoke as well-- nobody has the galls to tell him his singing voice is horrible. However, he's incredibly unbeatable at Mahjong, Lord of Verminion, and Triple Triad-- remember that he once had a lot of time on his hands.
    • Emet dyed his hair electric blue way too many times just so he could stand out amoungst his brethren-- his trademark white lock is as a result of the persistent over-dying.
    • That chocobo carriage man from opening cutscene for 1.0 or 2.0 Ul'Dah? He's definitely alive and has already figured out how to transverse between all the fourteen shards -- go look at the intro cutscenes for Shadowbringers, he's right there...again. I reckon the Exarch is slacking and needs to have a chat with him-- could learn a thing or two.
