I believe it can be with long term exposure to whatever the fear is.. to teach that there's no need to be afraid of it. However, regardless the game has many spiders and snakes so yeah.

Which is why as much as a jerk as it makes me sound I believe it would really help the person get over the fear.

I highly doubt anyone has done a year long study of exposure 24/7 for 365 days and I'm willing to bet that would break it so they are no longer afraid.
Regardless the point remains.. In fantasy it doesn't matter if you don't like X thing, then avoid it for whatever reason. I hate machines and high technology, but I still put up with 95% of the game being mecha fights.
