Question about the end of Stormblood (Spoilers)

I'm not gonna put this behind spoiler tags because it's old content. But I noted in the title it's a spoiler, so please leave now if you haven't played through Stormblood.

I just completed another playthrough of SB on an alt, and during the very last scene of the expansion, when Zenos is in the body of an Alliance soldier after Ghymlit Dark, he says, "My enemy, my friend. If only I was a bit sooner."

I'm probably overthinking this, but what did he mean by that? Was he going to help us against Elidibus? I'm assuming he doesn't want anyone to rob him of his chance at a rematch with the WoL. He wants to begin his hunt again anew.

But I never understood this final scene.

He will go to any length for a rematch with the WoL, and was disappointed that we eluded his grasp.

I don't think it gets more or less concise than HappyHubris stated, tbh, lol.

But the phrasing is a calllback.

Farewell, my first friend. My enemy.

My enemy. My friend. Had I been but a step faster...

Besides, there is but one hand that can make me whole again. My enemy...my friend... I know not what entertainment occupies you, but if you will not clear the way for me, then I shall seize the reins of fate once more.
