MCH guns shoot physical bullets created by condensed aether (Directly into the gun if I remember the Job quests correctly). The "Magical" bullets was the old Reload mechanic where you would load in "Charged" bullets.
Of course, these days, MCH are pulling missiles out of their butts and conjuring up giant bullets behind them to chuck at enemies rather than actually shooting from their gun.
Meaning that MCH thus operates in a rather similar fashion to BLU wherein they condense aether into physical objects such as missiles and needles and what not.
Even if it was still a different technology, it doesn't mean that Stephanivien couldn't be inspired by its functionality and compact design to create something new.
From what I can recall, it's used for all of 3 skills. Peloton, Tactician and Hypercharge.
Which could easily be altered. Given the number of other unique animations that MCH has for such skills (For example, Reassemble's animation of working the gun with a spanner would work well for Hypercharge. Barrel Stabilizer's hologram screens or Rook Overdrive's wrist mounted device could work for Peloton/Tactician)
