    Samurai, when to use Hagakure?

    Hi everyone,

I very recently got my SAM to 68, and thanks to lots of time spent wailing on striking dummies in La Noscea, I’ve gained a understanding of how to play SAM well.*
But now that I’m lvl 68, I’ve unlocked Hagakure and it’s left me stumped, what do I use it for? The only thing I can think is to use it to reset Sen to apply Hingabana easier, since sometimes a abrupt phase transition in a trial or a large mob pull followed by a dungeon boss can leave you with too much Sen that was supposed to be used for something else, and by the time the boss comes back/tank aggros the boss, Hingabana may have worn off.

    Any other suggestions?

*(At least I think I have, things certainly die faster then when I leveled RDM, plus I get more comms too, I’m on PS4 so I can’t use a parser to get a more factual result. Maybe I could get a PC player to watch over my rotation for a bit and gimme a parse to see if I’m actually doing good, if you see me in Leviathan when I get my SAM to 80 maybe gimme a shout about this as putting up a PF asking for a parse sounds like a good way to get angry tells/banned considering how sqeenix and certain community members feel lol, remember that it’s the people who chose to interpret the parse with vitriol and negativity that are toxic, not the parse itself)

I don't main SAM. But I use Hagakure to reset my SENs to start my rotation over in between trash pulls in dungeons, and when bosses go afk long enough for my buffs from my combos to fall off.

    From The Balance Discord:

Q: How Do I use Hagakure?
A: Hagakure is a DPS loss in all situations other than:
    1) Eating the Sen from your rotation loops filler combo(s).
    2) Post-downtime reset to allow for a clean re-opener and raid buff alignment.
    3) End of a fight where it is apparent you will not fit in another Midare.

Depending on your skillspeed, you will use Hagakure for filler combos. You have the opener, the cooldown phase, the filler combo, if your gcd is anything but 2.17 with Shifu up, and finally your burst phase beginning with the Gekko that reapplies your DoT.

At your level Hagakure is pretty much used only to reset sens between dungeons pulls (or before the boss comes back from downtime). When you obtain TsubameGaeshi however, it gets a whole new usage. To explain it shortly, in order to maximize your damage as a Sam you need to make sure you hit Tsubame on cooldown every minute. This means that you have to do a Midare each minute at the moment Tsubame goes off cooldown. Hagakure is used to do that, you basically eat your available sens (around 12 or 13sec before tsubame gets off cooldown if i remember correctly) so you can do your burst (apply Higanbana, do a Midare/Tsubame). So for now don't bother much with Hagakure, but keep that in mind when you'll obtain Tsubame.

Still not sure if Samurai's a tank who forgot that aggro was a thing or a dps that's way too much into it.

Hagakure like some of the senpai already mentioned. It is used to filler combo. basically at high end content, we want to make sure our meikyo and gaeshi is always ready to use when cd finished. That being said, it is sometime difficult to manually judge when u can immediately use ur meikyo and gaeshi immediately when cd finished (eg, ur 3 sen is fully charged but gaeshi and meikyo still on a 8sec cd, then u're stuck whether to use midare, cause if you do then u need to rebuild 3 sen which normally take 16sec - 18sec)

And here is when hagakure play its part. normally depends on your skspeed. for me my skspeed is currently at 2.12, i need to control my gaeshi in exact 20-22sec to fully enter into hibangana opener then into burst window. so in order to do that i must clear all my sen b4 gaeshi go less then 20sec.

is basically just a number crunch. When u reached lv80 and understand hibangana and midare opener, then you will realize the use of hagakure.
