What is the point of mount drops...

Now that I've actually bothered to penta meld my gear I'm always out in the open world. Even if I didn't have that I'm still out there doing the latest beast tribe. I'm really out there in the open world than I am at the cities or towns, though I do need to work on getting the SB and ShB mounts.

Just as a little, serious sidenote: My personal main motivation for farming mounts usually isnt that I want to use the mount to fly around (I have my few favorites for that, depeding on music and glamour) but the little lore-bits you get with them. Yes, I could read them online, but for me getting those little background infos is part of the reward of getting the mount and its something that I have to earn for myself by farming the mount in question.

But thats only a little footnote in the huge answer that is: Just because you dont have open world content that you want to do anymore doesnt mean that thats true for the majority of people. I'm flying around all the time and I see other people fly around all the time. If mountdrops are useless to you, leave them to those people?

Do I gather? Yes. I fly around in a circle until I get what I need from a zone and then leave. Max time spent, maybe ten minutes? Or perhaps I am there for a specific node before I leave, in which case max time is about 3-5 minutes depending on the distance of the node.

Do I fish? Admittedly not that much, but a bit, yes.

Hunts? Sure, I go from aetheryte to kill spot to aetheryte to kill spot to aetheryte to kill spot... Which is to say, no extra time is spent in the open world other than travel to the A rank and then you're done.

FATE trains? Why yes, as a matter of fact. I was capped on the shared FATEs probably the .... second week in to ShB? Maybe third. I don't think it was that long, though. I still do them occasionally though, as I enjoy a mindless grind and there are in fact a couple of gemstone items I don't have yet. That's probably the only activity that keeps me in a zone longer than 5-10 minutes, since everything else you mentioned does not.

Maps? See hunts. Beast tribes? See gathering. However long it takes to do the objective, and then there is no longer a reason to be there.

You guys act like everything other than fates keeps you in a zone all day.

In fairness, I also believe that there's a lack of open world content in general. That's not to say that such content doesn't exist, because it obviously does. But I feel that there needs to be something...more. Probably multiple somethings.

OP, what exactly do you seek to gain from this thread? People tell you what the point of mounts is, or ask you what you do with your time, and you just argue with all of them. You don't seem to want to hear what they have to say, and only want to shoot down ideas or suggestions.

What do you think mounts are for? Maybe take it upon yourself to never use aetherytes and walk everywhere. That will make them worth something.

Funny, I seem to find plenty of opportunity to use my mounts while I'm engaging in content.

There's also Frontlines, Eureka, and Diadem (well was, will be) for using mounts. Granted, all of those ended up being terrible, but using mounts was a highlight of them.
