On DPS, I usually comm the other DPS, especially if a DNC makes me their dance partner or a DRG used Dragon Sight on me. I’ll comm the healer if they saved me from certain death because I was having a moment where my brain decided to stop working, or I just flat out forgot a mechanic.
Case in point: there was this one healer in Grand Cosmos who Rescued me over to the last piece of furniture during the blue fire mechanic because I wasn’t going to make it in time. That was clutch and they most definitely got my comm.
On healer, I will commend the DPS if I didn’t notice them. Seriously. I can’t remember which dungeon it was, but there was this BLM who I didn’t have to heal once. Not even a Regen. Only time they needed a heal was during group wide AOE. Made my job so much easier and less stressful.
Depends, I usually commend people I like. An arrogant and nasty player won't get a single comm from me. Even if they some how carry the team which is never happens.
I usually give comms to DPS if I find them funny.
I also seem to get Comms alot as a DPS. Noticed it's either if people like me or my jokes or if i manage to kill a boss while everyone is dead.
Why commends tend to be arbitrary, and will default to Tank/Healer or whoever has the better glamour. I do commend DPS that help me (for a recent anecdote A DRG what mains SCH gave me some tips when I was leveling SCH via roueltte and landed in the fairy dungeon) and also try to commend those that use Raise spells when I'm healing.
Player
Mostly I'll com the nicest person, regardless of the job.
I'de rather com a nice, fun and polite DPS than a "good" d-head tank or healer.
Also those who take time to explain the strat, again, regardless of role
People don't know how to take criticism anymore, and bad play is rewarded with with a coddling mentality. Yes, this is a casual game for the most part - that doesn't mean people need to walk on eggshells in fear of getting reported for pointing out things. This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.
Said it in other threads but my criteria for comms is "who would I most like to be in future DF groups?" which can result in all sorts of reasons, especially when everybody does their job well, so nobody stands out game play wise. As long as you don't behave like an arse, you're in the running.
Whoever did good dps for their role and job will get my comm. The only exception I'll make perhaps is for a healer who carries a struggling party or a tank with well timed LB (e.g. when too few alive for stack marker).
Usually if there's a standout dps (partly considering their position in aDPS meta) I'll give them the comm since often you can see a clear distinction, otherwise I'll give it to the best performing Tank or Healer dps wise.
