Dodgy Tell

So my friend got a random as hell tell today from someone wanting them to sign a petition to delay patch 5.3 because this is a "sensitive time" (obviously meaning covid-19)

Tried to check it and the link didn't seem to do anything, so it's probably something pretty dodgy, posting this thread to warn others if they get the tell to not click the link

Even if the petition is legit why would anyone want to delay he patch when the devs have been working so hard on it?! It would be a crying shame to have their combined efforts just go to waste cause somone didn't understand that they already found a way to continue despite the limitations

The devs have already confirmed they are delaying the patch anyway. So, yeah, definitely a phishing attempt right there.

Why does YouTube demonatize videos for saying corona virus, I've heard alot of content creators skirt around calling these covid 19 times everything they can to not get demonatized, I understand the content creators doing that cause YouTube is how some of em make their living but YouTube punishing people cause someone flat out said the words corona virus is just stupid, makes no sense.

Plus I hope this isn't some new trend were u can't call it like it is cause I don't see how that works in a fight against something if you can't even call it by it's name.

That's my rant lol, the whole "sensitive time" part of your post made me think about this and as far as your friend goes their probably getting trolled would be my guess for the nature of that tell, or someone is horrible at advertising.

I've had this sent to me by tell twice now too, I think they're using hacked accounts since they have pretty regular character names. The link is definitely a phishing attempt, though at quick glance it would look just like a link to the forums here.

I received one today and just reported it. May the GMs lay their accounts peacefully at rest.

Link is mass sent out, people unfortunately get caught in the scam, new accounts puppeted to repeat.

This scam has been going on for the past few months, though they've been refining it as time has gone on.

It started as them using the all too typical "Go here for free gil" bait coupled with a totally irrelevant link that was mostly copied from a page on the official Lodestone website, but now they're pretending to link to a controversial forum post and the actual address is only a few letters/symbols off from a legit forum link.
