Why do you commend DPS?

As an aside, I seem to get more comms now on my healer after I name changed her to Anna Stark. It’s a randomly generated name that was available believe it or not. I just thought it sounded really cool, and it fit the look of the character. She’s a WHM with white hair and white robes, and a glam’d Garuda staff.

It never occurred to me that the whole look and name could be a Game of Thrones reference. I’m guessing there’s still a lot of GOT fans out there.

I give to dps because they get the least amount of commendations. Sometimes a tank or healer stands out with their excellent play and I commend them instead. Also, a Hrothgar or femroe gets the comm.

I do dungeon and raid content almost exclusively as a healer of some sort.

In dungeons I typically give my comm to the tank, assuming judicious use of cooldowns and general threat management/survival. With that said, if I see that the packs are melting super fast and that the dps aren't standing in bad stuff and aren't ignoring mechanics (like the grates for the last boss of Anamnesis Anyder), I'm inclined to give my comm to one of them.

In 24-man content, I rarely have time to see how specific dps are doing and my comm usually goes to my co-healer, assuming I don't feel like the healing burden is entirely on me and they are just pew-pew-ing. With that said, when I see dps with the ability to res, make good use of it, especially when my swiftcast is still on cooldown, I'm inclined to give my comm to them.

And finally, shirtless sexy catboys always get the comm even if they are terribad. Being hot counts for a lot! ^_^

I commend any player who excelled in their job; whether it be tank, healer, or dps.

A lot of times people will just bail from the instance immediately when it's done, before anyone can commend them. In these cases people often just commend whoever is left. If you're frequently last or second last to leave the instance, you may be getting commends because of that.

What's frustrating is that those who played the best usually leave too fast for you to commend. Would be nice if you could commend even when they left but I guess it's some kind of (engine) limitation preventing that.

Personally I have 3 main reason's for giving commendations to DPS:

1. If I see that they have played really well.
2. If they have been talkative / funny / friendly / helpful during the run
3. If they are a new player

Yeah, i do tend to give new players playing dps a commendation as I know how hard it can sometimes be for dps to get it. Also, you don't need that many for the 1st 1-2 level's of commendation achievements... so I consider it a helping hand. However if another dps has been especially good then I might give it to them, or even someone super funny/amusing/entertaining.

Re #2 - I'm sure we've all seen the nonsense that can happen in alliance raids. However I've grouped (either party or alliance) with some really cool dps who have actually helped out ppl failing mechanics, posted quick guides on how to do stuff, etc. They tend to get my commendation if they are in my party... just for being nice and helpful, and not a total jerk to others.

I'll usually just throw one out to whoever at the end. I've been giving it to the DPS more often recently just because they don't get all that many otherwise, but there's no rhyme or reason unless the tank and healer were bad.

Sometimes I'll do it just because I like the class they're playing, their glam, their name, whatever. If they're new I'll probably give them one just because. But generally I just throw it out as I wait for the loot or am walking to the exit.

Why WOULDN'T you comm a DPS? Always comm a DPS. They are literally doing the leg work. D: I always comm a dps, doesn't matter what job I am on. But being a DPS main that works their ass off I know the struggle. DPS need comms too. Stop babying healers and tanks.
