Chocobo Color issue

So for what ever reason i am having massive issues trying t change my chocobo color in game. im trying to get soot black but when i follow the color calculator i get kobold brown. then i will adjust the calculator to go from kobold brown to soot black and follow it i get ink blue. does anyone know the exact fruits i need to change the color to black or can at least tell me what i am doing wrong?

Are you making sure to follow the suggested feeding order as well? Feeding in the wrong order can result in a different colour than you intended.

Also if you do not get a message about the feathers changing colour after feeding each time, it is possible that feed did not take effect the time a message didn't come. Following the feeding order reduces the chances of this happening.

It isn't an exact science so there can be some trial and error.

yeah ive been doing all of that and still nothing. i have no idea why. somethimes when i would follow the order i would move on to the next fruit and get the message telling me that my color will no longer change.
