    Ocean fishing problem

    Hi,
so i find ocean fishing idea fun and enjoy it a lot but there is a rub.
There are always at least 2 people leaving if 1st fishing spot doesn't get rainbow buff, which i find really unfair to all people leveling and doing it for other reason that is not getting that one mount.
In my opinion that kind of behavior should be punished in some way since it ruins experience, same if person leaves instance immediately upon seeing what dungeon/raid/trial they got in roulette (and they don't like it for some reason). Ocean fishing is a group event and end score is calculated from group participation. Its not like it lasts for long...
Anyway that's my opinion, what do you people think about it?

The solution for now is to wait till it's closer to the 15min cutoff time.. the leaving people are jumping ship to join if the first wave doesn't show up..

If you wait closer to the 15min mark the people wont jump out because at that point they wont be able to rejoin

None of the bonuses are Alliance based as far as I know. The list I've seen only includes solo and party bonuses. The few party bonuses you're going to see if you're randomly matched to a party can be obtained just as easily with 5 or 6 in the group as 8. The more lucrative party bonuses require you to be joining a pre-made that are going in prepared to catch specific fish. You're never going to get those with a random group.

You can get the mount even with only 2 spectral currents and 2 players leaving your party at the start. That's what happened to me last night on this character. I focused on maximizing my catch instead of worrying that others had left the group.

There's a good guide on reddit for ocean fishing. Give it a read so you can go in prepared and improve your chances.

Are there any good sources for maximizing points?

I've been following the main Reddit guide, aiming to catch Spectrals, then during Spectrals aiming to Double Hook the high-point fish with the correct bait, watching for their bite time as advised but so far my best runs have been around 5-6k points with 2 Currents. The majority of runs are 0-1 Currents and I've never seen 3. My main problem is the high point fish during Currents rarely bite, maybe one at most during a current, but blind DH's seem a waste since it doesn't even seem to work on some fish.

From what I've read, most seem to get the mount in a few tries after skimming a guide, but I've been turning out 2k, 3.8k, 3.5k, 5k, 3k and so on, along with everyone in my party. I'm a bit baffled. I'd expect to at least come somewhat close. I assume the Reddit is wrong and I'm missing an obvious trick, so open to any advice.

When the big pointers don't bite (or the time of day is not right for them), you just gotta go with whatever will. Not using three double hooks per spectral current will hurt more than hooking the "wrong" fish. All the spectral fish give decent points, and if you aren't getting the big ones you should be going for the next one down the line and hoping for HQ. Any fish that is a x4 double hook (like Merman's Manes) are still pretty big point hauls. All fish during spectral benefit from double hook so it's never a total waste to use it, no matter what bites. Also, if you are, you shouldn't be letting fish get away outside of the current in the hopes of reeling in a spectral with surface slap up. That might increase the chance of getting a spectral fish by like 1%, but it ends up costing you tons of points. The non-spectral junk fish DO add up over the course of a trip, and can give you 1-2k points alone, especially if you get the intuition fish.

That's where I'm baffled. I don't let fish get away and always triple DH during Spectral, but last run I got an 8k with two currents while one person got 12k. Some fish during spectral are something like 80x2's and others 216x4's, so I imagine there's a big difference in getting the right ones. Getting mostly NQ High Aetherlouse and Shipwreck Sails feels like a lost mount.

The guide definitely helps if you have the luxury of picking which voyage you're going to do so you can skip the ones less likely to bring in the high point current fish. Weather doesn't matter during the currents but time of day does. Check the route in advance to see what time of day each current will have then check the guide to see if the high point fish will spawn at that time of day. If they won't, there's not much use in going if all you want if the mount.

There's still the usual RNG to contend with even after that. On my 2 current trip that earned the mount, I managed to get 4 NQ and 5 HQ Executioner for 3024 points. I had 6338 total catch points. Bonuses were 20% for over 5k catch points, 10% for catching a rare, 10% for triggering one of the currents, and 2 of the 10% bonuses for the party catching at least 10 different fish in a zone.

All I can do is say, keep trying.

Aye, I've learned some trips just aren't worth it at all.

I dislike immediately blaming RNG for failure, since there's usually a consistent method to most things (example being the Expert Recipes), but this definitely feels like RNG. I just got off a run now where I did nothing new at all, same guide, same tactics and landed 18000 points, a full 10k over my best record and miles better than anyone else on the boat. We got 3 currents, 80% bonus and I simply got amazing x4 double hooks. Title and mount instantly out the way just like that.

Ocean fishing is a nice idea, but the variance on points could be tweaked a little.

Good advice from you both though and well worth considering, any advantage is worth taking incase you get that 9.5k run that could have been a mount.

Spectral Currents seem more likely per spectral fish hook the less people that are on your boat. Both my fishing linkshells have been testing this out for weeks. Sure enough the other night when I get a solo boat at the last moment, I have a 100$ spawn rate of spectral currents whenever I hooked a spectral fish. I've been told not to expect that kinda luck every time but hey, can't argue with the results so far lol
So the game mode has been future proofed somewhat to when it's no longer popular to do. Less people hooking spectral fish, but higher chance at Spectral Current when they do, meaning nobodys going to have a bad time.

Don't let people who are there for a different reason bother you if they leave. You aren't as impacted as you'd think!
