Metallic orange - Preview vs. Reality

Before I take this to the bug report section, I want to see what other people think. Need to make sure my eyes aren't playing tricks on me. In the preview pane for Metallic Orange Dye, it looks much darker than what it is on the actual armor to me. Anyone else?

Sorry, I think I've posted maybe like two pictures on here before, and I don't do pictures in general anywhere else. My photo-fu is lacking.

Your eyes don't trick you, but I'm not sure if that's actually a bug or a result of light, weather and time of the day nuances. Though other colors generally seem to not have such difference between preview and reality.

I considered the same thing, and I went to a few different places to test it out. Super bright Il Mheg, darkened inn rooms, house with no lights, etc., but it all looks off.

Edit - I suppose it could be the utter lack of light in the preview pane / character screen that gives it that darker color. /shrug

I was a bit disappointed by the difference, for sure.

honestly I think Square enix has no idea how to make orange colors ... Idk why they are such failures when it comes to orange and snake creature art design wise when they do just about everything else perfectly

Wow. I always thought Metallic Orange was hot garbage because I've only seen it from the preview panel. In use it actually almost looks like a type of gold. Can you do a side-by-side comparison with Metallic Yellow too?

Ignore the bright sheen on the front, I'm pretty much directly under the light in my house. BUT, it's still about the same.

I wanted the orange in the preview, that's what I liked ;-;

I think the lighting in different areas can really change how some shiny gear looks.

It definitely does, and in each screenshot the OP posted it does look like the gear is being heavily affected by the lighting as it matches the lit tone of the other objects in the area. (That first screenshot in the Crystarium especially, as the rest of the scene has that foggy washed out look.) Where as in the preview it's basically in a vaccum with no light sources to affect it. The darker metallic gold has the same issue, as does the metallic red. They reflect more of the light around them, which makes it seem like the color has been changed.
