What does the hardware it's being played on or the fact it's an mmo have to do with the way the msq is forced upon you? I highly doubt ff15 is designed that way, I would wager it's closer to 7 in mixing combat and story than it is to 14's msq

That alone is enough.
If you don't like the MSQ, then you should probably find another game. It's not being forced on you, nor are you being held at gunpoint to play the game.
And like I said in my previous post. FF games tell stories first and foremost and it works around that. It's why there's an MSQ to begin with. It's to continue the story of the Adventurer turned Warrior of Light / Champion of Eorzea.
You know what you're getting from the name. You know what to expect. Not SE's fault that some people decided to jump in blind and complain that it's not like <Insert other game here> despite the fact that plenty of people continue to play it, being rather content with how it is (in broader strokes, at least)
You don't care about the story for whatever reason? Go play something else. SE isn't going to change their main selling point because a vocal minority is upset.
EDIT: I would've suggested "skip potion" but then you'd still have to play story and it's clear just how terrible an idea that is to you. Actually having reason to do stuff? Heresy.

No I definitely didn't get the idea of the other titles I've played that I was getting an extremely long unavoidable story that's mostly cutscenes and talking to npcs unless I pay up. I remember getting into alot of random battles from walking around in the overworld ''mindlessly'' killing as you put it. Did you know games like guild wars and wow have msqs as well? You can read all the quest text and watch cutscenes if you feel like it.That alone is enough.

Let me ask you a question, what do you do when you've finished the msq? If you don't like doing mindless buisness then I assume you don't raid, roulette, hunt,do the 60 fate grinds, gather craft and all of that.
And I do have a reason to do stuff. I raid for example because it's fun and that's my reason. I'm not doing it because I feel I have an obligation lorewise.
Also the fact that the potion even exists means it's not exactly a ''vocal minority''. They saw the profits they could make off of it

I've skipped almost the entire MSQ for various reasons, and yet I'm still around because I've found things I do enjoy. My non-story watching self has also spent far too much money on this game over the years. I can't imagine SE appreciates people being so quick to tell others that they shouldn't play XIV simply because they don't enjoy one facet of it.

I can't imagine SE being told that the main facet of their game is unwanted, so it goes both ways I wager.I've skipped almost the entire MSQ for various reasons, and yet I'm still around because I've found things I do enjoy. On top of that, you know the "bits to round it out" i mentioned? The raids, the hunts, FATEs and all that? Well, welcome to the "rounding out" part. I enjoy the story and I enjoy the game, so I play every part I can. I'm not the one trying to get a game plenty of people to enjoy to change its main thing, because of whatever reason you may come up with.

It wouldn't change, not sure how many times I have to repeat it. You like the msq? Cool keep reading everything, I don't so I avoid it and everybody wins. There's no reason to believe the quality of it would drop down, there's already tons of ways to level your secondary classes ALREADY in game that exist only for that purpose. Roulettes potd/hoh fates sidequests exist almost solely for that purpose the only difference is now you would be able to do those on your starter class as well.I can't imagine SE being told that the main facet of their game is unwanted, so it goes both ways I wager.

Of course there is because how the game is played affects how the story would be experienced. If they make the story optional for people who don't like story, it's only fair that they make dungeons optional for people who don't like dungeons.
The next thing you know, you have a dungeon that doesn't have a story of why you're there or you have a story that doesn't go to any dungeon/raid.

Yep I agree with you, if you don't like dungeons you shouldn't have to either. And I'm thinking that's one of the reasons they created trusts too, so they feel more like your usual msq instanced events than a dungeon.Of course there is because how the game is played affects how the story would be experienced. Dungeons don't have to be tied to the msq either that's just something square ended up doing. I can go into blackrock depths despite never having done searing gorge or burning steppes, but if I do want to know why I'm in there,I can go find out.
As it's been pointed out many times now, no one is saying to get rid of the MSQ. Having things be optional doesn't mean they suddenly won't exist.I can't imagine SE being told that the main facet of their game is unwanted, so it goes both ways I wager.

Also, there was no talk of rounding out anything in the post I copied my snippet from. You said that if someone doesn't like the MSQ, they probably shouldn't play XIV. I was just trying to point out what a stupid mindset that is, but in a slightly nicer way. I'll be more direct next time. :3
