Most MMOs don't have such a (long) main mandatory questline to unlock content and allow players to journey through the game however they like. People who don't care much for story will have a terrible time in FFXIV.
...which simply means its the wrong kind of game for them. Im not gettin GoD because the landscapes are pretty but i hate all that shooting and explosions, either. I just dont see why "its a mmo and i wanna raid" is a valid excuse for this...
