It's kinda sad when the prices of gear drop so low that you are not even making any profit if you were to buy the materials. Materials should also be limited like it used to in Heavensward with Weekly capped scrip and the favor mats. I really loved doing favors it really kept the market board healthy for those who wanted to put in the effort to make Gil, and it made gatherers way more important with their weekly Scrips that they could get favor mats and sell them to crafters. It might be selfish but mounts and glamour are not gonna fix it for some of us. A crafting leaderboard isn't the way to go, personally I wouldn't care about it.
Really loving the suggestions from the Original Poster here though, thank you so much!!
You seem to be remembering the Favor mats period of the game very, very differently from what I remember how things were, back then.

I remember it as a period of time in which the Favor system required a change to make it bearable (buff timer reduced to 5 min, down from 15 min, increased chance for concealed nodes to spawn). The effort that went into crafting the 3.0 DoW/M gear made it so the prices were high enough for most of the non-crafter playerbase to just ignore it in favor of the more easily attainable (augmented) Law tomestone gear/Gordias normal gear. It turned into a game of crafters crafting gear for other crafters/gatherers, and that's where the majority of the gil profit came from. And even that profit would go down over time, as more crafters realised that the DoW/M market was dead.

That period of the game was the turning point that eventually lead us to where we are right now. DoH/L gear introduced in odd numbered patches, in preparation for the DoW/M gear coming in the following even numbered patches. DoW/M gear that would then be easy enough to craft, so crafters could churn it out in patch day, allowing the first wave of savage raiders to be use it for progression.

True, hardcore raiders had Gil anyway and would spend 35 million Gil on a chest piece that took blood and sweat to craft hahaha. We all know hardcore raiders are rich from selling Savage runs. And The savage wasn't in the best shape anyway in 3.0. It was so hard only Hardcore raiders managed to clear A3s and A4s. Obviously my opinion about favor mats is not popular but it really revolutionized the value of gatherers to the crafters. Maybe keep the craftable battle gear easy to HQ so it doesn't make it tedious for raiders as the OP suggested, but at least make the crafting and gathering gear difficult to HQ.

O_O Wow, didn’t expect Ashelia Dalmasca to post, lol. xD Nontheless, I think Ashelia is absolutely correct. At least make the crafting and gathering gear hard to HQ, as crafting and gathering are economical jobs. Combat jobs aren’t that economical. A lot of hardcore players sure did miss the gil earnings, I know I did. There needs to be a barrier between casual content and hardcore content, and both content should co exist.

But dude, I did not expect Ashelia to post on here...wow. Guess crafting has gotten so bad to the point where even Ashelia has to join the fight. Actually kind of sad Yoshida let it get to this point

I'd rather quit than go through the motions of having a 5 minute buff and crossing my fingers for the RNG gods to grant me a concealed node while rushing between nodes.

While this could make a difference in the amount of DoW/M gear being crafted on patch day, there's also the case of crafters/gatherers having 6 months to prepare for it.

I'd say take it a step further, even if it might not be a popular way to go about it:
    • Completely remove gear bought with Yellow/White scrips (most of it isn't all that great anyway, due to the lack of CP melds). This change would put more emphasis on actually crafting DoH/L gear, instead of just spamming a good ALC/CUL recipe for scrips.
    • Remove crafted mainhand tools at level cap, and make it so doing the current expansion's level cap quest awards a main hand tool. This tool will then be upgradable throughout the expansion. Basically, the system that was in place in ARR (Quest reward > Supra > Lucis). Maybe toss in a catch up tool halfway through the expansion, similar to the Artisan tools in ARR. They could do the same thing with offhand tools as well.
