Glad armor (war garb vs. full plate)

This is a very simple question (or rather, I think it should be a very simple question). I have just finished leveling LNC to 50 and I wanted to pick up my Gladiator/ PLD for my second class/job. It's level 32 at the moment. To save a bit of gil I thought to reuse my old equipment from my LNC. It's mostly Haubergeons and sollerets (+str and +acc). My question is, would I be severely gimping myself by not using full plate items (+vit and mind) while leveling? Would tanking for groups be a major issue with only str gear? I know I will eventually need to pick up Vit and +mind for endgame content but is it just as important for leveling?

I will admit, I skimmed through the first few pages of this section and I didn't see anything that resembled this thread. If it's already been answered then I apologize.

Technically, you would be better off with plate type armor, but war garb won't necessarily be the end of you. For tanking, you'd be better off with the +VIT and +MND though.

Also, I just used a bunch of thrown together NM gear for the longest time. (This was many patches ago.)

I do recommend making the jump to Cobalt when you get there.

GLA can tank in just about any gear, while leveling mine i've ranged from tabards to harnesses, to cuirasses and NM gear. Whatever is in your level range and how often you want to replace the gear are the only 2 key factors to worry about for the most part.

If grp xp is your thing, plate is the way to go, healers will love you (and hate you for being a GLA, AoE burns ftw) War garbs are your second best bet, but don't go lower then that. Harnesses were ok back during SP grinds, they carried Eva on them as well.

I agree as well, although I would recommend trying to jump to the 42 plate gear. (Mythril?) Other then that, stack acc, and let your grp know you're a GLA, they should understand lol

Thank you! I am still rocking the steel chainmail at the moment but I guess it's time to let go of the lower level haubergeons. I will pick up a set of plate and just take it from there. So basically I want to prioritize, vit, mind, att and acc? There are a bunch of threads discussing stat priority, so I won't ask about it too much here. Again, thanks for the feedback!

Most of the other threads deal with endgame content for the most part. For someone intent on leveling for right now, the stat choices are fairly simple, Str for dmg, Mnd for dmg, Acc (because Gla misses like no other) it's only until you get to the harder stuff should you worry about def/m.eva/vit/hp and all that other stuff, or at least until u can reliably hold hate on multiple mobs off of a healer and most DD's. In AoE burn parties, heals are flying out left and right.

But if you switch to the plate gear you won't find a whole lot of stats on it, so mainly get acc from rings should you go that route
