I am in support for delaying Savage by 1 week. Aside from all the arguments mentioned here whose only counter is 'that's a you problem if you decide the rest of the game/your life is more important than raiding', the current design is completely anti-ethical to SE's philosophy regarding how the game should be enjoyed. SE wants people to take their time to enjoy the game at their own pace.

Why do raiders have to get singled out to choose between raiding behind the pressures of a weekly lockout, and experiencing everything else in a patch first before the community inevitably tries to spoil things for them beforehand? A world first race will happen regardless of whenever the savage tier is actually released. But for a game whose main selling point is the story, whose development staff ALREADY split raids into normal/savage modes TWO ENTIRE EXPANSIONS AGO because enough people complained about the story being gated behind difficult raids, and whose development team ALSO already split many trials away from the main quest because of the complaints about not being able to jump into them immediately...

It seems like a terrible design decision to still keep encouraging one aspect of the community to speed through/ignore certain content because weekly lockouts are a thing, and also because of an arbitrary race for some teams on top of that. The first tier of an expansion's raid series is already delayed by a full month so that people can go through the story and level their classes, and the savage variant of that is released 2 weeks after that still. That didn't affect the content balance or the integrity of the world first race at all, so I'm not sure what the hell people are expecting that would make the situation any different for the latter two raid tiers.

Hell, the staff already released some of the new Nier raid quests in this recent patch, presumably because they didn't want to hear complaints that mirror the Ridorana Lighthouse pre-quest situation again.

But SE isn't doing anything to prevent you from enjoying the game at your own pace. You're the one who's doing it by not being satisfied with anything other than a week 1 clear.

Some players don't care about the rest of the game. They're only here for the Savage raiding. Are they supposed to be forced to wait for you to decide you're ready to start progression? That's not fair to them.

It's up to you to decide your priorities. The content is not going to be less challenging because you waited a week. You don't get a special reward for clearing in Week 1 instead of clearing in week 2.

If you want to enjoy the rest of the game before diving into Savage, do it.

High end FC crafters not being expected to forgo their own progression push to feed the raid team melded gear ASAP.
Sounds like adults making adult decisions on what's most important to them.

If other content is more important to them, they can put the Savage related activities on the back burner until they're done with the other content. If others on their teams have different priorities and feel that Savage comes first, the player probably has chosen to join the wrong team.

But again, their decision they made as an adult knowing that it would be less than optimal for what they personally desire.

These people already wait several months for new savage content because they finish the tiers early. One extra week is hardly going to be noticeable to someone who has already been waiting for most of the previous patch.

It's not just about the raiding itself. It's also about crafting and gathering. Unless you have a team of gatherers and crafters it takes a really long time to get everything crafted and then pentamelded. Often the people who do this are also the raiders. It's a near impossible task to complete all the gathering, crafting, pentamelding, complete normal mode and then enter savage all in the same day. This is frankly asking too much of players who do not have the luxury of having a large helpful group to sustain their activities.

Delaying savage by one week puts teams on more equal footing. As things are now some teams are ahead before they even enter the instance because they have DoH/DoL players around specifically to sustain their gear. While teams who do everything by themselves are at an automatic disadvantage for not having the luxury of being able to rely on other people to kit them out.

Sure you can say "manage your expectations/priorities" and so on. But really wouldn't the competitiveness of savage raiding be in a much better place if every participant was given a reasonable amount of time to prepare? Not just the participants lucky enough to have their own outfitting staff?

Now problem what if SE waits to release crafted and tome gear alongside savage then what? You will clear normal and do other content but still have the same problem for gearing. Do you think they want you having a full week to gear up for content that is intended to challenge you? If I was in their position I for sure would not be giving such advantage. If they delay savage which I really dont care if they do or not there is a good chance they will delay tome and crafted gear too prevent you from being geared out on patch day.

An extra week's worth of tomes isn't going to make much of a difference, especially if you already have the best gear from the last tier already equipped. You can't get upgrades to major stat slots (chest, legs, weapon) in week 1 from tomes because you simply don't earn enough in one lockout to do that. So at best you would be going in to week 2 of the patch with pants/chest upgraded. But SE could just delay the tomes as well if this is a concern for them.

As for tokens from the normal raids, well I actually got lucky and got a drop in my first attempt on each boss this tier, so you can already go in to savage day 1 with all your normal mode tokens or the gear from them for that week. These are not an enormous stat difference from the top end gear from the last tier though, so they don't make much of a difference if you are a top tier raider. Certainly not from just week 1.

What actually does make a big difference is being able to go in with several pieces of pentamelded crafted gear, which I already explained isn't something a lot of teams can do day 1 or even week 1 because of the current timing of how savage is released, but teams who are supported by a team of DoH/DoL players can.

Again I point out that delaying savage puts teams on more equal footing because a week is more than enough time for any team to get all their stuff sorted, but less than a day is something only a small number could realistically do. The current situation ensures that those with more than just the raiders in the team working towards progress (raiders plus DoH/DoL support) have a very distinct advantage over those who can only rely on themselves to get sorted.

I'm struggling to actually find any kind of point within your post outside of 'ef raiders because ef raiders'

    Could you clarify please?

This is actually totally wrong. If Savage is the most important thing to a player on patch day, they have no choice but to go through normal mode first, likely skipping it to get to the content they want to do. How is it fair that raiders have to skip through a piece of content because savage is gated behind it. IMO savage and ultimate content should never be gated behind anything unless that content came out before the savage level content and players had time to prepare.

Still your own choice. If a new game comes out and the most important thing for you is to finish it as fast as possible, it's absurd to complain afterwards that you had to skip through texts and cutscenes for reaching your goal.

There are people in this thread with a very impressive raiding history who want savage to be delayed. It's clear that there are hardcore players who consider having to rush or skip things to be a problem.

One of the best things about FFXIV is you can do everything on one character, and doing one thing doesn't lock you out of doing something else. It's one of the game's main selling points. Well for competitive savage raiding that isn't the case due to the aforementioned need to rush or skip things to meet the demands of that raiding environment.

I don't understand why some people are so against the idea of allowing competitive raiders have just as much time to enjoy new story or ex trials as much as the rest of us. The way some talk it almost looks as if they think those players somehow deserve to have a less meaningful experience in casual content. It's weird.
