The Qitari Triple Triad Card ruins the Qitari beast tribe story [SPOILERS]

so if you get the qitari tribe it outright states that the ronkan emperor peaceably welcomed the qitari into their court as scribes meaning that they just basically ruined the choice you get to make since the ronkans enslaving the qitari is untrue based on this information

edit: a link containing the card's description

Eh I dunno, it is a fact that that qitari were stewards for the Ronkans, regardless of what choice you make. ANd just because the Ronkans "welcomed" the qitari as scribes, doesn't mean the qitari weren't forced into it at the beginning. "Welcome loyal Qitari, now get to work scribing or get busy dying!"

...that is if you believe what the TT-card says - in the lorebook they always make a point to say that certain things are according to scholars, who may or may not got those things right. The same probably holds true for TT-cards: As far as the person who put thise lore-bit on the card is aware they served the Ronkan empire peacefully. This person could be wrong, though. Or left bits out.

The way the lore-team set the writing up you should never consider any account - specially in regards to history - as 100% true. Just like irl there is always the possibilty that its not fully accurate, because of a lack of knowledge or delibiratly. We dont get absolute, 100% true facts here - we get someones account of what happend. And history is written by the winner - if the Ronkan Empire wanted their relationship with the Qitari considered a peaceful one without enslaving, they probably made sure that thats what ends up common knowledge.

Note that the card doesn't actually say "Peacefully"

    Just that they "Welcomed" them.

"Welcomed" can mean "Didn't eradicate them". Since, the Qitari, being scholars rather than warriors, would have been easy enough for the Ronkan empire to completely wipe out if they so wished, but instead they opted to utilize them as stewards. Whether or not the Qitari were coerced into working for the Ronkans by threat of being annihilated, or willingly sought to aid the Ronkans after being saved by them is impossible to determine from the text on the card alone.

It's much in the same way that one could say that the Garlean Empire "Welcomes" those that join them, providing them with work, shelter, food and you know... Not murdering them and their families...

Both the father and son give valid interpretations of the Qitari's history. The thing is that you're choosing which part of history to care about. Yes, the Ronkan Empire forcefully assimilated the Qitari tribe into their ranks, but then they did also take care of them.

I think the bigger issue is we don't get to see what they see underground. At the very least, they could tell us if the emperor/viis were facing the qitari with their weapons or they were facing away.

After getting rank 5 with the Qitari today, I noted that they actually expanded on the lore in regards to the option if you said that the Ronkans enslaved the Qitari:

    Qitarl Natl
...Ahem. You'll also be pleased to know that the relics and records that turned up in our subsequent trips below have confirmed that the interpretation of history that you espoused was indeed and indubitably true.

We came upon many ritual instruments in the tunnels below. It would seem that─in the empire's earliest days─the Ronkans would offer individuals chosen from the races they conquered as living sacrifices to their gods. The markings on the first stela depict just such a scene.

But this was not simply a cruel and callous tradition. Once these conquered peoples were recognized by the Ronkan gods, they were welcomed into Ronkan society, and given the chance to serve the empire and live peaceful, prosperous lives under its auspices.

It is a somewhat chilling tale, but we must be grateful to our ancestors, who gave their own lives that we who followed might live a brighter future.

There's a similar note for the other route. And this is why I dislike actual choices in the narrative in a multiplayer scenario.
