    FFXIV DirectX Error 11000002

    Hi

    I am randomly getting Fatal Direct X Error 11000002 which kicks me out to the desktop. This can happen any time I am playing the game and happens on both my NA and EU character. There is no pattern to the crashes, sometimes it will play for an hour or so without crash, other times it will happen every 10 mins or so.

    Things i have tried:
    • Reinstalling the game
    • Reinstalling windows
    • Updating the video card drivers
    • Underclocking the computer
    • Clearing the cookies on Chrome
    • Running in windowed, borderless windowed and full screen (all 3 result in crash)
    • Capping the framerate at 60
    • Uncapping the framerate
    • Removing any overlays including the Xbox one that comes with windows 10

    I am at a loss as to what is causing this and how to fix it. Please can you help?

    I probably should have included that in my post - I am also using a laptop, an Alienware 17 R3. It’s 4 years old now, but usually plays the game no problem.

    Me too! I have a 17 R3 as well, with 980M. I wonder if it's the certain NVIDIA settings that needs to be changed when playing FFXIV?

    JessBobbles, are you able to reinstall the game on the C drive? If you have not done so already, could you try doing a cleanboot? Open the task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC.

    Thanks for replying to me.

    I have tried the cleanboot tonight. I changed all programmes to 'Disabled' and restarted my laptop. This did not make any difference. I have been playing for approx. 3 hours tonight and have had 5 crashes. Three times while in the open world (once when fighting a mob, other two times not fighting), once when queuing for a roulette and once in a roulette.

    I have not tried it on the C drive, this is a HDD that I do not use now. I use the SSD for the operating system and the game. I do not want to move it to the HDD because of the load times. My Video card is also the 980M as mentioned above by Lucas.

    Please advise what I need to do now

    Hi

    I have had 4 crashes today in approx 3 hours playtime. They were again a mixture of in duty, queuing for duty and open world.

    Please can you let me know how to fix this? It's making me struggle with healing as I don't want to cause a wipe because of the crash.

    Could you try installing it on the C drive just to test it? Final Fantasy XIV communicates with the C drive constantly. You may want to try changing the resolution or playing the game in windowed mode or borderless fullscreen.

    Hello, I have today tried reinstalling the game on the C Drive and I have had two crashes in 1 and a half hour playtime. Both in a roulette. I have tried on both windowed and borderless and this does not make any difference.

    Please help!

    Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

    Have any changes happened to the device before the issue began? Also, you may want to try deleting the locally-saved data folder (My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV). Make sure to create a backup of this so you can replace it if it doesn't solve the issue. I would like to recommend the following troubleshooting steps:

    1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
    2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs.
    3) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
    4) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
