"An Unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FINAL FANTASY XIV.(6d)"

game still unplayable. at first removing administrator privileges worked, but it stopped. i have tried all the other solutions out there and nothing has worked. even on a 100% clean boot the game does not play. DirectX 9 launches but the game is missing graphics and performs like crap. i did notice that after a fresh install of Windows 10 Home x64 that the game would launch. but it would only launch that one time. i found it is necessary to create a new user account everytime wanting to play the game. not on just each Windows boot/desktop session, but every actual time wanting to play the game. not only is this just a work-a-round, and not a solution, but it is an unacceptable work-a-round.

does anyone know if Square Enix has mentioned anything about fixing this issue? or do they just not want people to play the game?

You might have a hardware issue, video card or motherboard, I haven't had any issues playing the game lately.

You could try playing other games to determine if it's the hardware or something wrong with this game which might require re-downloading the whole thing!.

I wonder if something else is going on. Like, if theres a similarity in hardware or something. I havent encountered this error yet.

Are you on AMD/intel cpu? Nvidia/AMD gpu?

    i have Intel i7 8700k and a GTX 1070 Ti with 2x8GB RAM installed.

well, even a fresh install of Windows and full driver/system updates didn't fully resolve the issue. i have even tried older driver versions too. well, the game played just perfectly fine before patch 5.2. and i am not the only one to get this directly after patch 5.2. and everyone has been finding different solutions. sadly, the only thing for me to work is to create a new Windows user account every time before wanting to play. which isn't a solution

it appears people are saying it is something wrong with how the launcher sets a DirectX option. well, i hope SE will fix this. they don't appear to be saying anything, which is almost always a bad sign. it has been what, 4days now? surely they must have taken notice by now.

also, other games play just fine... GTA V/Online, Final Fantasy XV, Borederlands 3, The Outer Worlds and loads of others.

Based on you saying DX9 launches, but graphics are missing...I would say that it may be corrupt game files, but even with a re-download it doesnt fix it?
Are you using the normal PC version or the steam version?
Have you tried completely reformatting the drive? It might be that the game is using leftover data from install to install.
Have you tried installing the game on a seperate/another drive?
Have you tried manually re-installing DX11 from microsofts website?

the game has been fully downloaded multiple times. i have deleted and trimmed the SSD multiple times. even on a fresh install of Windows, after formatting the drive, the issue is not fully resolved. again, the game only launches once. after that i have to make a new user account to launch the game each and every time. not really good for an SSD to perform a full/secure format. at least, not for earlier models. i have a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB. it has a good max TBW value, but a full/secure wipe isn't essential for anything but security purposes.

    the game is non-steam version.

i only own the the SSD for storage, and it is brand new. already performed the benchmark/diagnostics with Samsung Magician when it first came in.

as far as i know, Windows 10 has no update for DirectX 11. i found an update, but it is for Windows 7.

well... i don't know... i have absolutely zero comprehension how this error could be caused by anything on my end. again, plenty of people received the same error directly after update 5.2. and i am not the only one who hasn't found a solution. where is Square Enix in all of this? it seems like to me they aren't going to fix this. *so sad*

an absolutely fresh install of Windows using all the basic drivers and without any driver/system updates the issue is still persistent. even on the iGPU still the error is here. so, it seems impossible to be anything on my end. the fact the game was just fine before the update makes that all that much more evident. EVERY component in my PC has a release date of less than 3 years. all-in-all, Square Enix really needs to fix this. sadly, they seem to be ignoring it completely. *so very sad*

People says to try running the game through GeForce experience as a workaround.

I know it's probably a silly suggestion, but have you tried to contact SE directly about the issue?

Asking on the forums and toiling away at trying to find a fix yourself are all well and good but if there is an issue then SE need to receive all of the detailed reports they can to potentially find a solution. If everyone who is having a problem just assumes someone else filed a report so they don't have to, or that SE won't care, then SE won't get the data they need or may not realize how wide spread the problem actually may be.

Looking around it looks like something to do with the administrator group.
